Originating from Rob Golsby, I have resent it to hold it as a sticky on the NSSPA news thread.
Hey everyone.
With just the JJ Grand Final to go I thought I would open a thread to get some reaction to the new Junior section. I know some of you have already put some nice comments on another thread for which I thank you but this is a chance to let me know if you thought it was a good addition or not. All opinions are welcome either way.
Just a couple of thoughts from me are:
Were the rules ok? Mainly for the Junior 4TT it was just declare your line ups on tactics week and you have 6 coaching sessions to use for any rider at any time during the season. The only caveat to that was you should only use 2 per week.
Just to make you aware that only 2 managers used all of their coaching sessions. One was me and the other was Fred when he took over Durham. Now, I don't mind if you do not want to use your sessions to improve your youngsters you can manage them how you see fit. My original thoughts were that if 6 sessions wasn't enough I could add more the following season. For now I think I will keep it at 6.
Not once were all teams line ups declared including the finals. You may remember the infamous week when only 11 or 12 managers out of 32 declared their line ups and one of them wasn't even racing that week! My thinking for next season is that I drop the averages for all riders for teams who do not declare for that particular meeting.
The Juvenile Jaunt is what it is. It is a riders' opportunity to achieve an average high enough to allow him to move into the AL the following season. 17 riders have managed to do that this season. So I don't think there is a lot we can change with the JJ. Obviously any thoughts on this are more than welcome.
Some teams will now have riders who have moved into the AL or who are too old for the Junior section. They will need to be replaced. Do you like the picking your own riders via the draft process or would you like them just allocated to you?
So what do you think for next season? I am happy to continue as it is. If anyone has any suggestions they would like me and the other NSSPA members to consider please post them. One suggestion I did have was to include some Commonwealth riders. I'm not sure about that personally as Andy deals with riders from other countries via the excellent Euro leagues. But if it is something you want us to consider let us know.
Over to you guys and gal.
Rob
ONLY ONE THING FROM ME IS WE WANT YOUR THOUGHTS, then if it is negative, we want to know what it is that doesn't float your boat to try to improve it, as each club now has 4 youngsters to coach and bring through the ranks for me this ranks high for me.
Rob I think we need get a feel for who is up for it or not, I also believe we have to give it more than one season to get it established and that we get a better response over time, nothing worse for you than putting your time in and getting little reward for those efforts.
