Here come the Speed Demons!
The brand new promotion of Durham Speed Demons are very excited to announce their inclusion in the Academy League this season. Rumours had been spreading round the region that a new team was in the pipeline and the announcement came this week.
In a bizarre twist the teams manager was originally announced as the Bishop of Durham. It soon emerged that it was a Tom Bishop of Durham who likes to be known as the Bishop and walk around in a smock. While his mental state may be in question, (and naming the ground the Cathedral and calling the fans his congregation didn't ease that notion)he does claim to know all there is to know about speedway.
On on the track the first 4 riders, signed as assets from the Nsspa were announced. Martin Payne, who had a successful EL season at Sheffield, experienced Swede John Hellsen lead the way. Following on young Swede Sebastien Aadalen who rode UL for Kings Lynn last season is also joined by Stevie Crammond. Crammond was a bright hope of British Speedway and former JJ runner up who lost his way a bit. After e bit of a break he returns and is ready to get his career back on track and start banging in the points.
The rest of the team will be finalised in due course as the new management start putting the side together.
