On a sunny spring day Estuary Promotions pulled out all the stops to make it a great day for the club, the riders, the fans and the press.
Fred Taylor took to the 'mic' welcoming all on board explaining today's agenda, we will shortly be introducing the 2016 Whales to you all, then in pairs they will take to the track practicing starts, finding their racing lines in the corners and getting their set ups honed.
This will continue for about 1/2 an hour before the riders will refresh themselves before meeting the fans, then the press.
More later as the day unfolds.
Up first is a guy who needs no introduction our 2016 skipper the evergreen Ben Leighton. ripple of applause from the crowd.
Then we see newbie John Stroud the Wantage loanee who is keen to make his mark on the sport after slow progress last season.
Lee Jessup needs no introduction our coaches believe he is the face to look out for in 2016.
Greg Pymer a very focused young rider who has been making steady progress should do well in the engine room.
A rider who has been in Fred's heart since winning Rhodri Szczygiel the pilot JJ has new equipment and a new excitement in training he has looked sharp.
Romanian Alexandru Gheorge has big sponsorship from local Romanian 'cottage industries' and the boss expects to see a few in the crowd for the new season.
Last but not least is Ashley Wakerley a big hit in last years JJ comes in from Iwade, thanks to Mike for the swift conclusion and no fee.
The riders spend their time on the track with a few ooh's and aah's from the crowd as riders tested themselves against the track, during the time out the pits were a hive of industry as riders and spannermen worked hard on settings for the slick track.
During the relaxed part of day riders were meeting the press and the fans, the pits were opened up for the fans to peruse the going's on.
With the food bars doing light refreshments there were no alcholic drinks on sale today, but the throng of fans chatting could be heard around the track, such is the excitement. Looking around us it was like a who's who of Sim with the faces on scene.
Here's to another big season in Sim, we wish all clubs an enjoyable and hopefully successful season.
