Following a good pre - season and some great racing, the cup was a bit of a let down losing out by 1 point, but well done to Whitby
The fans loved to see former captains and favourites plus current leader Scott plus Denis who we brought to the UK and Sim. Carl and Daniel showed how much they loved the west Coast Arena and how much the fans loved them.
We might have lost the meeting but the fans loved seeing there current stars and returning stars. All in all a great atmosphere around the Gems.i

Week 1, at home to the current Champions and we start with a draw, both sides number 1's had off nights. The Terriors went into the the last two heats 8 points ahead and looking for an away win. But Mr Hooper had other ideas heat 14 Daniel Lawson finally got it together to team ride with Carl and a 5-1. Heat 15 Carl and Denis again did for the Gems riding to another 5-1 and secured a draw.
Scott with Darren & Hakon all struggled. Gennady did well with 5+3.
Next week we we travel to East Anglia to meet Kings Lynn.

Week 2
The frustration on JC face said it all, you can't win meetings with only 3 riders. After a long trip to Kings Lynn to lose by 10 points was a disappointment. Take nothing away from Kings Lynn.
Both the the reseves spent more time on the deck. Carl had a mare as did Hankon. Coach Edwards said " with all this quality I really only need to give Batichev time, so I understand John's frustration.
The he needs to get into a winning mentality and quickly.

We won, and about time, 49-41 at home to The Lions. Scott followed his GP win with. star performance his and Hakon team riding was great to see, Hakon getting 7+2 and skipper Scott 13 +1.
Denis also ended up in double figures and Darren got 7. Gennady scored 5+2, only Daniel struggled which is a concern.
The attendance was disappointing and we will work on getting support t grow, but a win gets the talk going in South Wales.

A home defeat in front of a great crowd was not what JC was hoping for new comers to the UL won by 6 points in the end. Scott continued to be Captain Marvel and Darren again was impressive, Denis had a nightmare meeting. Carl is currently off the pace and scored 4 third places.
Gennady impressed with 8+3, Daniel started well with 2 second places.
One win in 4 league outings is not what our supporters want or need, we have a team of favourites who know the track inside out and fans deserve more.
Gems are away to Whitby next a good result will restore confidence.

Week 5, another defeat for the Gems away at Whitby 50-40 and now sit bottom of the league.
Everyone had an off night except Darren Moore. Clearly Scott and Denis we're weary after flying back from GP duty. Moving Carl to number 2 to give us a powerful 1 & 2 flopped. Hakon faired better at 4 supporting Darren well.
Fans hero and Gems Hall of Fame rider Daniel Lawson is struggling and although JC has tremendous faith in his former captain as they climbed the leagues perhaps a sad but needed decision might have to be made to address the current slump.
Gems are away again next to newcomers Wednesfield, with Scott and Carl doing battle with Adams and Shaw..

2 new riders and 1 returning star were welcomed to the West Coast Arena with our biggest crowd of the season and they all didn't let the crowd down with a 48 - 42 victory.
Otto came back with a bang scoring 13+1, new signing Jonnie scored a win in his first outing, Rudolf also chipped in with a couple of points

The joy didn't last long the Gems don't have a good record at Tunstall, but this was in JC words a DISASTER only Scott Bridges offered any fight.
1. Scott Bridges............. 3 2 1* 2 2 1 11+1 2. Gennady Batichev.......... 1 0 0 - - - 1 3. Darren Moore.............. 3 2 0 1* 1 0 7+1 4. Otto Juttke............... 1 0 R - - - 1 5. Denis Gomozov............. 1* 2 2 3 Fx - 8+1 (I) 6. Jonnie Elano.............. 0 1* 0 - - - 1+1 7. Rudolf Schulyer........... 1 2 1 2 - - 6
Rudolf it has to be said did well and the extra training did help. The side only won 3 heats. Gems lost by 19 points and lost the bonus point.
JC refused to speak to the press after the meeting the anger was plain to see. Gems coach Allan Edwards did speak saying the side is better than its position but the results not lie, JC and I every season give the club everything and through the years built a UL club to see the club last and have a real fight on its hands to keep its UL status is disappointing and hard to swallow. But the fight goes on.

50 - 40 home win was pleasing, but it was Jonnie Elano who was the star scoring 14+3 at reserve he was well supported by Darren Moore. Otto had a Miserable night with 3 last places.

More away misery for the Gems. The Lions roared all evening as the Gems couldn't even raise a glimmer let alone sparkle.
Otto was the best on the night, following scoring nothing the week before. Captain Scott Bridges form has deserted him in both league and GP. As with Gomozov who looks a pale image of last years rider. Batichev is clearly struggling currently in the main body of the side.
JC said "we need to dig deep to pull our selves out of this situation the experienced riders need to show there skill and ability the younger ones the undoubted enthusiasm in riding."
JC told the lads you are to good to be in this situation as your records show, you now have to show it to yourselves and all your supporters.

Gems put up a fight away to league leaders losing in heat 15 when Denis the gate. The result puts us clearly at the bottom with 5 to go Sam only scored 2 on his debut and was off the pace.
