New side Durham got off to the best possible start with victory in their first official match at Abertillery. A solid all round performance and a sprinkling of luck saw the Speed Demons get a valuable away victory. They were led by top riders Martin Payne and John Hellsen.
The line up had been completed with the signings of Giles Hill, David Osbourne and Kevin Taylor Giles joins from Teesside after an impressive JJ season last year and had a very impressive start to life as a Speed Demon, racking up some big points in the friendlies. Finding a team close to his home has obviously made a big impact. Kevin Taylor is a rider who showed a lot of promise a few years ago, looking the part in Wantage's first season. He has lost his way slightly over the last few years but has the appetite to get back up to where he was and beyond. He joins on loan from Southside. David Osbourne is an experienced rider who will help support the younger riders. He has bags of experience at this level who should be a valuable asset
