The Cats have now calmly made it through the first three hurdles in their big Ultimate League challenge, and they have done so largely unscathed.
"I've always believed in my team, from day one I believe we can go the whole way, and so far we're doing ok. A couple of the guys are maybe struggling a little, but they're the least happy with how they've been going, and they're doing something about it."
First the Cats made their way to Canvey, the home of the mad islanders, and in spite of losing Steve Edgar to an accident in heat 5, and Zielinski to another in heat 11, the Cats only lost by 3. "With our full compliment of riders I think we could have been on for an away win, I think Zielinski certainly had the measure of Colton by and large, but a narrow away loss isn't a bad result. Next time we just hope to have the luck to match our abilities and maybe the result will go our way" said Cats supremo Sean Wood.
Week 2 saw the visit of Wantage. In the absence of injured Zielinski we welcomed Hampden Eagle Viljem Kjesic as a guest at 7. MK took a while to get going, aside from a heat 1 4-2, but by the mid meeting point the cats were level. From heat 9 onwards the Kings didn't win a race and the home side gradually pulled away before blowing the Kings away with a sublime heat 15 5-1 to take the win by 11. Cats scores were topped by a sublime 13 from Reay, with a paid 12 from Tercjak, 9 from Kryznowek, and 8 from 4 rides for Edgar.
Kings Lynn Lightning were the visitors in week 3, but there were no storm clouds brewing over The Grovedale and the attendance of 1,975. It was a close meeting, but the Cats never trailed, with 10 race winners delivering a 47-43 Cats victory, in spite of the efforts of Vaughn, Struthers and Krogh. Liam Reay once again lead the scoring, with his colours only lowered by Vaughn in heat 13, leaving him with 14 from 5. He was ably backed by Kryznowek and Tercjak.
So 3 meetings in, and the Cats technically top the table, but they're not getting carried away "leagues aren't won at this stage of the season, but they can certainly be thrown away. We'll keep working, and we'll keep giving this our all. We have the distraction of the KOC this week, and home and away meetings against perennial foes Wednesfield. However we will still be looking to improve, Steve Edgar will be getting some track time under the tutelage of Liam Reay, alongside a couple of other riders including Cats Juvenile Jaunt representative Ryan Betts, and Buck Bracey has a couple of new engines courtesy of new local sponsors.
Speaking of Ryan Betts, he is now 2 meetings into the Juvenile Jaunt, and in round 1 he started steadily with a haul of 9 points that delivered fourth place, but in the second round at The Camelot arena he dropped just 2 points, and his haul of 13 points meant he topped the pile and won the round. We know Ryan is destined for big things, and with the help of the Cats family, and expert tutelage from World Champion and current top UL star Liam Reay, we know he's going to get better and better.
