Wednesfield Wanderers sponsored by Welding Services, have had a bit of a mixed bag at the start of their first season in the Ultimate League. After a club record attendance in the opening league which heralded a 6 point win, Wednesfield travelled to champions Tunstall and suffered a heavy 14 point defeat. Chris Adams top scored with paid 13 from 6 rides, followed by Martin Shaw with 10 from 6 rides. There were 7 heat winners, which was nearly half but the downfall came from 10 last places. Up next was another away trip to Teeside, and another defeat, this time by 10 points. A team shuffle helped slightly, but only 3 heat wins told its own story. Then Wednesfield moved onto a 2 leg quarter final against MK Cats. A narrow 2 point home victory was followed by a 9 point away defeat and an aggregate loss by 7 points. There were odd good performances but nothing to please Steve Morgan. He added," we are not competitive throughout a meeting. We chuck in odd good rides, but it isn't enough for me. i want to win home meetings how we are losing them away. I want us to be closer away from home, but I'm still tinkering with combinations. Hopefully this week, I have got it right...."
