After a sublime 6 point victory away to Aberavon, courtesy of a solid top 5 performance, with Liam Reay leading the way only dropping 3 points through a fall while leading heat 5, and Steve Edgar turning his night around after a heat 1 retirement to only drop a single point for the rest of the meeting, this week sees the reigning champions from Tunstall visit Milton Keynes.
It's been a couple of years since they last visited The Grovedale, and i'm sure they'll be impressed by the calibre of facilities that make The Grovedale one of the top stadia in the country these days. However the main focus will be on the action on the track, although given past experience, we'll certainly be keeping an eye on the travelling support at the same time. The reigning champions have to be respected, they've earned that with their title and they've built another very strong side, and they'll be a threat. Interestingly they've made a tactical switch in the last few weeks that sees Zdenek Drahos line up at 2, and given his current status as averaging 8 points, they must be certain it will have a positive effect. We considered countering it directly with a change of our own, but we believe in our team, and the switch gives us a potential weakness to exploit.
Focusing back completely on the cats, and we've made a bold double switch at reserve, with our top 3 in sublime form and increasing their averages thus far, our middle order struggling slightly but doing ok, our reserves have definitely struggled thus far, and as such i've taken the opportunity to make changes. In hindsight Zielinski was taking too big a step up, but we believe in him and hopefully he'll find a team spot elsewhere on free loan alongside Mustonen. Making their debuts for the visit of the reigning champs are 24 year old Finn Manu Jarvilenhto, arriving on a 3.18 average, and 23 year old Dane Mads Vestergaard, on an average of 4.59, we're sure the Cats fans will give them a warm welcome.
Elsewhere in the Juvenile Jaunt, young cat Ryan Betts competed in the third and fourth rounds of the South Midlands Juvenile Jaunt. At Abertillery he started poorly but improved, and were it not for his retirement in his first race would have undoubtedly gone on to better his tally of 9 points and his final position of sixth. The fourth round saw the series visit Downham, and courtesy of 2 wins and 3 seconds, followed by a race off victory over Michael France and series leader Darcy Broad, saw Ryan win on the night, which sees him sitting in second overall, as we head to round six at Rye.
