Bottesford remain top of the Academy League after an impressive 53 - 37 home victory over the Abertillery Dragons.
The Bullets couldn't have gotten off to a worse start as they conceded two 5-1's to the visitors in the opening two heats. Those two apart though, the home outfit claimed 9 heat advantages from the remaining 14 races with pretty solid scoring throughout, only the two reserves failing to get a race win.
That said, Craig Leonard has had an impressive start to his debut season as a bullet, and Shane Rigg has showed plenty of promise despite failing to score heavily.
Team boss Paul Duff was happy with the win but thinks there is far more to come from his Lincolnshire septet. " We haven't fully clicked into gear yet, I may sound a hard task master but we are top of the league and winning matches but I still feel we have a long way to go to hit our true potential.Martin Greer has scored well and Will Stone and young Craig Leonard have hit the scores, however the other 4 riders have yet to hit anything like their top form, so we can improve. That said, I'm delighted to be top early on."
Duff refused to rule out changes in the future but declared he was relatively satisfied so far. "We built a team to be competitive and the reserve berths would change - Ricky Ede should drop into reserve soon and that will do him good and get him scoring, Hamish Hamilton is a little inconsistent too but he is a cracking lad and I have lots of faith in him and the others.
Will Stone had a belter of a meeting and is in as good form as I have ever seen him, he was chucked in at 3 with the big boys and he has responded magnificently. Lewie Carr has started to come good too. We'll have to see how we progress"
"The Dragons gave us a bit of a scare early on, but the lads responded well winning race after race, and taking the meeting by the scruff of the neck. A good response - We have started well but it's how you finish the season that matters so it counts for little this early. Still we have laid down a marker"
