Canvey Island's three-time world champion Nick Ambrose took the Ironopolis crown at a packed Dock Yard, who pre-meeting cheered home their successful fours squad who won the UL fours at the weekend.
But Ambrose spoilt the Teesside party, losing just once all evening. Home fans were buoyed by Olle Bjorn Thoresen, who came close and finished second. Last season's winner Braxton McChesney finished third ahead of impressive Russian Nikita Fedorenko, who had knocked out home favourite Hans E Bergestol in the semi-finals.
Teesside boss Graeme Bailey was again delighted with the Ironopolis and the crowd reaction: "It was great for us to present the trophy, but I was so happy with the racing - our guys did not have it their own way and the likes of Fedorenko, Juritzen and Ostenstad really mixed it up."
Ambrose spoke on the podium and said: "I felt good all night, getting the better of Hans, Olle and Braxton around here is one of the hardest things anyone can do - but the support for all the riders was immense, thanks again and I hope to be back to defend this."
Thoresen added: "I am sorry I couldn't get another trophy for Teesside but it was a great meeting again and it was wonderful chance for us to celebrate our fours win with the fans."
17-year-old Giles Hill, the centre of the recent failed transfer took to the microphone to thank the fans for their support: "I just wanted to thank everyone at the club for their support, I am gutted not to get the chance, but for me it is a matter of when rather than if that I will be racing here for Teesside."
