After a frustrating couple of weeks the 'Young's Motors' Bullets finally turned in another performance to defeat Cleater Moor Phoenix at the Eddie Wright Raceway by a mammoth 34 points as the home side ran riot.
An Academy League record home win of 62-28 was the result of a near complete evenings work for the North Lincs septet, who raced into a commanding 15-3 start in the first three heats. Skipper Martin Greer and 'find of the season' Craig Leonard led the way in Heat 1, but this was eclipsed by a virgin heat 2 win in a Bullets race jacket for young Shane Rigg, and all the more impressive as he did it from the back after being penalised at the tapes and handicapped to 15m. The meeting was effectively over after 7 heats with the hosts 33-9 up. The visitors did rally a little in the second half of the meeting, picking up four race winners but Bottesford filled the minor places to send the visitors home without a heat advantage.
Bullets boss, Paul Duff, was understanderbly happy with his side afterwards. "I'd like to say this has been coming, we had a couple of unlucky weeks and a disappointing 4's, but boy did we nail this one. 1-7 contributed with some outstanding rides and big scores with all returning to form, I decided against team changed after a chat with some friends and I'm delighted, more so for young Shane Rigg, his ride in heat 2 showed his ability and I'm sure he can take heart from his racing, the fans are warming to him here and it's great to see him get his first win round here." It's a long season and we're taking nothing for granted, but we're top and I'm delighted so far. Speedway is tough and it's a long road, hopefully we'll keep learning and this young side can continue to stay hungry for succes.
