Teesside Transporters could be taking a break from the sport, owner Graeme Bailey has confirmed.
Despite enjoying one of their best seasons last time around, The Transporters have endured a campaign of struggles with inconsistent performances throughout and Bailey admits he shoulders the blame and is now looking at Teesside withdrawing for a period.
"The team have lost their spark and so have I to be honest, the zip has gone - I thought this team had title contenders written all over it and to be honest it is down to me to pick the riders.
"A handful of transfers, which we thought would help, have been blocked but that would only have papered over some cracks.
"As a promotion we don't really like the set-up of the four leagues, foreign riders in all the bottom divisions - it wasn't like that when we came in and we believe it has diluted the leagues somewhat.
"And we want to make this clear, no matter what happens - if we avoid relegation or not, which we will be fighting to do to the last - our league position will have no impact on this decision. That said the prospect of another year or two in the second division is even less of an appeal and I know some of our fans would be disappointed.
"We don't want to become a yo-yo team but with the relegation and promotion as it is, most teams will be involved.
"A decision will be made in the coming weeks, but we would also confirm that this would not be an end to Teesside, just maybe the end of this chapter. The Dock Yard would never be allowed to deteriorate and would still host open meetings etc.
"But again we emphasise no decision has been made either way - we are still fighting for silverware and to stay up, we won't be gifting a UL place to anyone and will be battling to the last lap of the last race, that is for sure."

It is good to read a managers reasons as to why he may not be committing to the new season and we appreciate your honesty Graeme.
With the introduction of the rider preferences, it has been hard for us to pick out teams as being title contenders.
Only the other night we (Robert and I) were talking about rider scenario's when a number one who rides his own track at 9.20 actually rode an away meeting at 6.79 a vast difference, but in the extreme this is how the preferences thing works out.
In times gone by I think with our experience most managers could write up stand out teams, now though it is not as easy to predict.
Regarding transfers, you are right, you needed to make more than one change to benefit your team, but with the potential in some of your SS we do understand your reluctance to do so.
We appreciate your thoughts on the new set up, sadly not everyone appreciates change.
With the changes came a way to see SIM become more fluid, with 3 teams up and down, managers would need to put more thought into SIM for their status quo to remain. It was stagnating a bit with the majority of the top table not having to work to remain at the top.
We know you are made of tougher stuff and appreciate you won't go down without a fight.
Nobody wants to be a yo-yo team, but if any team is relegated, the fire in your belly should reignite the challenge (we note this year you have been quieter than usual), so being in the competition to test your skills is part of life, we all have our challenges.
As said we look forward to your decision and hope it is YES as you are part of SIM and I am sure together we can continue to improve the product.
Let us know how you see SIM in the future, as the BSPA have no idea where the 'real' sport is going.
All the Best
Fred

Graeme,
Hope you come up with right decision for you? You will be missed if it ends for now. We have had some great dealings and chats through Sim.
I will miss you mate, but understand and respect whatever you decide
John
