This week sees the cats take a break from the excitement of the title run-in and chase down a different trophy. Some may say this is a distraction we could do without, sitting at the top of the table by a single point with everyone gunning for us. We see it differently though. While everyone else has a week more to overthink what the task is for them, we're keeping race fit, and we're just focussing on each race and meeting as it comes.
Our opposition in the final are the Kings from Wantage, and while they insist the Cats are the favourites, we feel that is far from the truth. League positions and form go out of the window when the cup comes around, and anything can happen when two teams face one another home and away. Wantage are a strong side, they've not fluked their way to this final, having bested the Castaways in the quarter finals, and Whitby in the semi finals. Any team with riders of the calibre of Levin and Chong is a danger, especially when they're within a solid, dangerous side.
There wasn't much between the two sides in the league campaign, with a 50-39 home win for the Cats, and a 49-41 home win for the Kings, giving the Cats the bonus point by just a 3 point margin, and with an almost capacity 2,439 at the Grovedale last week, the highest in the UL this season, and the highest at MK in history, for the win over Wednesfield we are sure to see big crowds for both legs of the cup final.
