A 10 point defecit after the first leg of the cup final was just too much to overcome when we got the Owls back to our place. We did manage to halve their lead by the end of the match as all the guys gave it their best shot. We couldn't quite keep the match as tight as I would have liked at Hillsborough despite our best efforts and everyone apart from Jon Nysted scoring solidly. It is not very often that Martin Shaw comes away from a meeting without a race win but he was kept at bay by a strong Owlerton side lead superbly by Hans E Bergostol.
At the Glaven Arena we were 9 points behind on the night after heat 5 so to come back and win the meeting was a top effort by the lads, especially after losing Jean-Marc Struthers to injury in heat 2 where we gave away a 5-0. After heat 5 we battled manfully for the win with a superb paid 17 from Martin and 11 from Halle Soderberg who has come back from injury in good style. In the end though it wasn't enough and the Owls took the cup victory so we must congratulate them.
So to the final league match of the season and the long trip up to Tweedside. The league is so tight that we could finish almost anywhere and could even be relegated!. We have a strong points difference and that could be the telling factor in the final standings and save our UL existence. I would like to think, however, that we can go to Tweedside and at least gain the bonus point. We will be without Jean-Marc who has a very sore elbow so John Scotney from Whitby will guest.
