SIM SPEEDWAY 2016/17 - ACADEMY LEAGUE - PS1 Leg 1
A solid if not inspiring performance by the Whales, Van Maurik suffered a retirement which reduced his scoring capacity, whilst Smith, Lewis and Ross showed good support, Daniel Gold showed a liking for his new home as Chris Ford settled into League racing.
Whitelaw, Hill, Luckhurst and David ensured victory with inspired performances.
A good workout but not good enough me thinks for Taylor, Templeton and Porter.

We welcomed our fans who made the journey across the UK to Wales with some Whales merchandise.
Thanks to John Coles who laid on refreshments as our fans met the new Whales line up introduced by our skipper Justin Ross.

SIM SPEEDWAY 2016/17 - ACADEMY LEAGUE - PS2 Leg 2
Our first meeting at the Park for some years and the lads were impressed with effort John Coles has made to the stadium.
The Dragons have been the leagues whipping boys in recent times, but Mr Coles has come back this year with a passion not seen for sometime, he has put together on paper a strong looking team, but only time will tell.
The meeting started with 5-1 for Whales Van Maurilk (some say he is the biggest fish in a small pond) and Smith, what a way to start our season away from home. Van Maurik went onto an untroubled maximum, The Whales skipper Australian BN Justin Ross was influential in the pits but looked a little off the pace out on the track. Lewis Miller back at the Megano put together a good meeting without winning a heat, his heat 7 5-1 where he team rode young protege Jordan Trott to the maximum pulled the Whales back to within 2 points. Trott himself established himself as a solid competitor after coming through from the JJ and after a first heat retirement when a plug lead came off. Michael Smith needs more consistancy after a paid win and win in heat 8, completed his night running two last places.
The reserves will need a bit more work on them and Fred Taylor has hinted they will be off to the Sim coaches pretty soon.
The Dragons were full of fire and Davie Langfield and the highly rated loanee Giles Hill did their best to bring home the victory, skipper Connor Whitelaw was his consistant self, reserves Golden and Luckhurst the two JJ imports looked very good each scoring points on every trip to the track. Huw David had an opening to forget as he fell twice after getting caught out by the track conditions.
The Whales were disappointed to lose out, but fully appreciate the Dragons were the better team over two legs.
