Well after our pre-season prediction of what a good side we had assembled we failed to show it at Tilbury going down 50-40. Only David Bedford and Jamie Vaughan came out with any credit. We were unlucky when Kenneth Krough fell in heavily on his elbow in heat 7 and was withdrawn from the meeting after an excellent second place in his opening ride. Whether we would have taken any points from the meeting I don't know but we would have been closer that's for sure.
Still on to this week and a home clash with Lanarkshire. We have followed the Lions through the leagues over the years but have yet to emulate them with a UL title. They always manage to put together a strong looking side and this season is no exception. But enough of the Lions love-in I think we have enough to beat them. Kenneth will miss the meeting and, as we are at home, I have decided rider replacement is the way to go. So a fruitless trip down from Scotland for Lanarkshire I reckon and a god bounce back for us after last week.

Nice home win over Lanarkshire has banished the opening match blues. The Lions are always a tough team to beat and Hayden Wood rode superbly to keep them in the match. We, however, had our own match winner in Buck Bracey who scored an excellent 13+1 from reserve. He was backed up strongly by all the other riders as we managed to fend off the Lions by 4 points.
Next up we have the Kings from Wantage. They have a knack of drawing so far this season but I doubt if that will be the case when they visit The Glaven Arena. I can't see them causing us too much of a problem and 2 points will be in our hands come the end of the match.

An excellent home performance by the Lightning to see off draw specialists Wantage. The match was all very tight after 6 heats but then we pulled away with 4 consecutive 4-2s to ease to victory. Everybody played their part and it was good to see Braxton McChesney riding better on our track and grabbing three heat wins. Brad Easty was also on top form although I am still looking for some consistency from him. Once he adds that to his repertoire then we will see what a good rider he can be.
Next up is the KO Cup and a tough draw against Lanarkshire. We narrowly beat them at home the other week and I think this will be a close match and tough to call. I would like to think we can sneak through with confidence high in the team.

A good, maybe slightly fortunate win at Rye for the Lightning. Heat 2 being where Rye lost a point when Brenda Duggan didn't appear.......or maybe we did when Buck Bracey crashed out. Whatever way it is Jamie Vaughan rode a superb last heat to beat Nick Ambrose with Braxton McChesney coming third to give us that important win. Jamie is riding better than ever this year and is vying for the number 1 race jacket with David Bedford. David has started the year quietly but still scoring good points. All the other guys did their bit to support our top 3 and see us over the line.
This week is a top of the table clash at Milton Keynes. We go there full of confidence and looking to grab a point or even two. If we can manage that it will certainly send out a strong message to the rest of the league. Still we shall see, the Cats are in fine form and will be hard to topple on their own patch. Should be a good match.

An excellent win at Milton Keynes has put us in a strong position at the top of the UL. The guys were bouyed by winning at Rye the week before and carried that form into the match at The Grovedale. All the team put in really good efforts with David Bedford riding particularly well. It was his fine neat 15 win that won us the points in the end. He would have had a maximum had he not been unfairly excluded from heat 13 when going under Kryznowek who went down very easily. That worked to our advantage as David was never going to be beaten in that final heat.
Next is a home match with the Suffolk softies from Newmarket. I doubt if they will have enough horse power for their little jockeys to trouble us.

A nice win over our neighbours from across the border sees us go into the average break top of the UL. Newmarket put up a good effort but we were always ahead just giving up a couple of 4-2s in the last two heats to make the score closer than it should have been. Still we will take the points and march onwards and upwards. Jamie Vaughan was in fine form and now takes over at number 1. Brad Easty and Braxton McChesney backed him up well, in fact all the guys played their part in the victory. Gabrys Irzyk rode particularly well for The Raiders to show what a top rider he is and will be for the next few years I'm sure.
No changes to the side after the first average change just a shuffle of the riding order. As previously mentioned Jamie goes to number 1 with David Bedford moving to number 5. Buck Bracey will swap positions with Kenneth Krogh so we will still have a strong rider at reserve.
Next we travel to Wednesfield where I hope we can keep up our excellent away form and come away with another 2 points.

Mmmm not sure what went on this week. From riding really well and storming to the top of the league we went to looking like relegation candidates with a thumping loss at Wednesfield. I spoke to the guys after the meeting and nobody had an explanation for the inept performance. All I can hope is we bounce back in our next match after the fours week. Nothing else to say really except fair play to Wednesfield.

I think we got away with a stroke of luck this week against Teesside. A two point win was very welcome but it might have been very different if Hans Benkarth had been riding. Still we will take the win although I wonder what the Transporter management think of him not riding in the league match but being fit enough to take his place in the European Final?
As for the match David Bedford, Braxton McCesney and Kenneth Krogh all rode really well but it was a solid all round performance with all the guys chipping in.
Good to see some of our riders performing well in the various national finals. None better than new Australasian Champion Brad Easty. What an excellent effort and huge congratulations to him. David Badford and Jamie Vaughan both progressed from the British Final and it was good to see our assets Jean-Marc Struthers and Tibor Nemecek make the Challenge semi-finals.
Finally a quick word on our JJ rider Nick Turner. His form has dropped off a bit recently but he is working hard with our coach, Mariusz Wiacek to iron out a few things and get back on track.
