90 90, 45 45, 45 45!
I don't think you can get a much tighter start to a season than that! The Kings have started with a cup match that was level and went to a run off before 2 league draws which leaves the management content but not excited about how things have gone.
First off was the cup prelims, a rematch of last year's final against Milton Keynes, where a home leg 10 point lead was soon wiped out. Matty Petkovic saved the day and the Kings go through to meet he Transporters of Teesside who have made a good start to the season.
Next came a bizarre meeting at home to Lanarkshire. The Kings dominated early on and looked to have the meeting sewn up when the Lions turned an 8 point deficit into a 6 point lead over just 5 heats. In the blink of an eye the Kings were facing the prospect of a home defeat in the first league match before a penultimate heat 5 1 from Olle Runeberg and Rhett Hodge put the meeting back in the balance. However mechanical problems caused Runeberg to be excluded on 2 minutes, meaning reserve Rhett Hodge had to come in. remarkably he was able to get the better of Steen Eriksen and his 4 2 alongside Petkovic secured a point.
That was a still a disappoint start, but a much more consistent performance away to Rye secured a 2nd league draw and left the Kings camp a bit happier. Chong and Eskilinen had much improved performances and now they will be looking forward.
Next week it's another away match at Kings Lynn. Who's betting on the draw?!
