First of all take a bow the coolest most brilliant super awesome wonderful team in the NSSPA the Canvey Island Castaways.
Des Dixon = simply the best after a poor start in the challenges he never looked back once the league had started finishing in second place in the averages.
Greg Teale = The first rider i ever signed and one of the nicest riders in the league always helpful with advice for the younger riders and even when he had a bad day never heard him moan.
Rhodri Szczygiel = when i started last year he was a raw 16 year old but we have a lot of faith in this lad which he is starting to show hopefully he will go on to better things in the future as he has bags of talent.
Jesse DeVeau = Although i was expecting more from Jesse he was always capable on his day of being the match winner which he showed on many occasions.
Jaz Tank = The Tank man always smiling a rider with a super talent who can and will go a lot further with a bit more commitment you just never knew who would turn up a rider who could be beaten by the away teams reserves or on his day an unstoppable flying machine but always good to watch mr.excitment.
Charlie Noone = over the last couple of weeks Charlie has struggled to score points which has affected his confidence and he did nothing but apologise to everyone in out last meeting which he had no reason to do who will ever forget the brilliant paid 10 points he scored in our away win at bletchley.
Dale Hawkins = Our biggest success story started the season on a 4.55 Average and put over two points a meeting on it finishing with 6.85 also was the rider of the night in our last four meetings a fantastic rider.
Onto our last home meeting
Canvey Island 52 v Falmouth 38
A good solid team performance to round off our season after we knew the score at iwade where the spitfires had beaten the Thunder we knew that all we needed to do was win the meeting and after a nervous start the Castaways got into there stride and rode like demons to secure all three points to make us the league Champions.
1. Des Dixon................. 2 3 2 3 3 - 13 = As always led from the front to finish with a maximum would have been nice but 13 was good enough.
2. Greg Teale................ 0 2* 1* 1* - - 4+3 = It was good to see Greg get back amongst the points again a good end to a great season.
3. Rhodri Szczygiel.......... 3 1 2* 3 2* - 11+2 = Rhodri again was only beaten in his second race quality stuff from the welsh Wizard.
4. Jesse DeVeau.............. 0 3 3 2 - - 8 = Jesse showed again what he is capable of but still has the odd poor race which he needs to concentrate on.
5. Jaz Tank.................. 2* 3 1 0 - - 6+1 = Yet again jaz started off like a steam train then went backwards if he sorts himself out will be a star in this league but he needs to try a lot harder.
6. Charlie Noone............. 0 0 0 - - - 0 = Charlie has struggled over the last few weeks he needs to get away from speedway have a holiday and comeback refreshed you have not seen the best of this lad yet.
7. Dale Hawkins.............. 2 3 2 2* 1* - 10+2 = well i have already said a lot about this young lad he could be something special if he keeps this up a super talent and a rider who has worn the colours of the castaways with pride and honour a wonderful assett of the club.
So thats it the season has come to an end on saturday we had a party on the beach at our sponser Rocky Shaws surf shop everyone was invited to join in the celebrations but first of all i sat down with my riders for the last time behind closed doors as we all know that we have had a wonderful season but we all knew we would never be a team again as same will stay with the club others will move on some may even retire who knows but for one fantastic season in 2015/15 we where the Castaways the best and coolest team in the Academy League.
