When the offer to take the reigns came to Richard Austin, the Estuary backroom staff likened him to the six million dollar man Steve (Austin) however as the season unfolded we were soon to learn that our Mr Austin lacked the powers of his namesake.
Estuary endured another season in the doldrums as they have for the past couple, now though its time to say thank you and wish Richard the same luck that he had with us with the Foxhall Vikings, especially when we are the opponents.
So from now on in Fred Taylor is back at the helm and time to get back to winning ways, something that has been amiss for a few seasons.
To start Fred is looking at his backroom, now Kenny Armstrong has retired and moved back to Scotland, Kenny has been our coach and Director of Coaching since our inception and has taken us to dizzy heights along the way.
Fred is asking the question do Wayne Templeton and Carl Porter need supporting or even given different roles?
As for the riders for 2017, Fred is going to put Alex Van Maurik up for sale, Alex deserves the chance to race at a higher level, staying with us last season saw his form drop as the confidence of team was shattered by poor results, then by the end of the season he was a shining beacon and led by example. So any interested parties should make a call on the Whales head honcho.
At this time contracts have been offered to Michael Smith, Lewis Miller and Jordan Trott, Fred has also been in touch with Megano legend Ben Leighton at 39 no spring chicken but a crowd favourite and he would come in on the back of helping Reading to get promoted, hopefully an omen.
Fred was remaining tight lipped as to the identity of his other targets, but he can advise he has secured his JJ target who will remain nameless for now.
Fred and Ess Drury Company Secretary in a joint statement, spoke of this being the year the club can move forward, although
keeping things close to their chests, they admitted there may big some really big news on the banks of the Thames, that could bring attitude, quality and a winning way to the Megano and for the Cinderella club of the AL.
So keep your eyes peeled for exciting times ahead.
