Hans Benkarth brought down the house at the Dock Yard as he claimed the Ironopolis IX to give the Teesside fans a home success.
The German star has been a huge success for Teesside this season going from reserve to heat-leader and he finished off his season by lifting the Ironopolis title, fending off World champion Luke Treadwell and GP stars Rudi Juritzen and Gabrys Irzyk.
“I just want to thank everyone here, I have loved my time so far with Teesside and I have been told I am coming back next season, and I am so happy as I didn’t want to anywhere else – this just caps off a great season,” said Benkarth.
Benkarth had claimed two wins during the main competition, with Treadwell grabbing three wins to go straight through with Irzyk.
Juritzen made it three Norwegian in the semi-finals with home heroes Olle Bjorn Thoresen and Hans E Bergestol making the latter stages too.
But Benkarth flew from the gate in the semis and final to claim the crown.
Teesside boss Graeme Bailey thanked the crowd and the riders for putting on a wonderful performance.
“The big guys came to town, like Luke – it was so good to have the world champion here and he showed up so well, but we had so many good performances.
“I was delighted with some of the youngsters, like our own Eugene and Giles, who both stood up well and 16-year-old Petr Marko really mixed it.
“All in all we are chuffed that we decided to go with this and think end of the season might be the best time to run.”
