After snapping up 4 Cats assets, the MK promotion have wasted no time picking up some new talent for the 2017 side. "This was actually the very first 1-7 i envisaged" said MK Cats promoter Sean Wood, "I like to pencil down riders i'm interested in, and put together 1-7s and see what options we have. I normally look at countless permutations, but this is the first 7 riders I put into a team - before I even looked at their averages, I thought they looked a handy 1-7, and I was delighted to see they fit together within the rules"
"It's a young side, but one chock full of ability and potential, but also theres a hefty dose of experience, in spite of the youth of the side. Tercjak and Kryznowek both won the UL with us, don't forget!"
With no further ado, we can confirm the final 3 member of the MK Cats septet for 2017.
First up is a returnee, of sorts, but this time becoming a full-time Cat after seeing out the end of last season on loan, is 21 year old Australian, Rhett Hodge. "He's a rider i've been interested in since he first arrived on these shores aged 16, and he's a rider i've tried to sign on not one, but two occasions on a permanent basis, but I was beaten back by first Glastonbury, and then Wantage, but I was able to bring him in on loan last season, where her performed admirably, and now on a permanent basis this season. We have high hopes for him, he's been around over here for a while, and he has progressed constantly, but we think in the blue and white of MK he could well be set for a great year!"
Next up is another from the homeland of Cats promoter Sean Wood, in the form of 20 year old Australian Rickie Keyse. He's been in and around the Australian Under 21s for a few years, and this year has featured in all 3 test matches, plus event 1 of the WTC proper, with tallies of 11, 8 & 9, plus 8 alongside Hodge and Mabo as Australia qualified directly for the WTC Final. Largely untested in league speedway it will be a stern test for Rickie, but both his father and brother are moving over with him, plus with fellow Australian Under 21 teammate Rhett in the side, he's sure to feel at home. Courtesy of some local sponsors, Rickie has been able to invest in some top quality equipment, now he's just got to ride it.
The final name on the Cats 1-7 this season is that of Axel Johannessenn. After a strong season last year for Oslo where he bettered riders such as Scott Bridges, Mark Briggs, Martin Shaw, Chris Adams, and Jens Isaksen, on his way to an almost 7.5 point average (higher than both Ludek Janicek and Jean-Marc Struthers) we are in no doubt he can perform in the Ultimate League. "If you can beat riders of that sort of calibre, you must have something about you, and if you can do that with a higher average away from home than at home, an away average of 8.28 no less. You're going to be a rider who can ride just about any track, and that can only be a benefit, and we are sure he will take to the MK track even better than he did to Oslo."
So there you go, the MK Cats 1-7 for 2017 - Let's go racing!
