Wantage Kings are back for another season in the UL. After 3 years of mid-table finishes they will be hoping for better things this time out. However it would have been much worse last season had it not been for a remarkable second half of last season.
Manager Craig Richardson gives the run down on this years team
:
Here we are again, and hopefully we have a strong team to challenge at the top end of the table. As always it has been difficult deciding who to leave out. Yrjo Eskilinen & Wilbur Stanyk can both count themselves incredibly unlucky not to be included.
Both of them were in our thoughts til the very last minute, and 1 man scuppered their chances of a team place - Nick Ambrose.
When we realised we had a chance of signing Nick we changed everything. We missed out on him last year, and he may not have had the best of seasons, but the guy is an absolute legend and so we felt it was an opportunity to miss out on.
Nick is the epitome of professionalism and will have a massive impact on everyone at the club. We are thrilled he will be joining us.
Next up is Fillippe Chong who comes back for a 4th season. Having just missed out on retaining his world under 21 title the Kiwi whizz-kid went on to finish in the top 6 in the grand prix, including his first podium finish. He hasnt yet fulfilled his massive potential, but when he does he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Matty Petkovic also returns this season. Its fair to say that Matty still hasnt won all fans over, but he is another rider with bags of experience. He does so much good work in the pits that goes unnoticed and will solidly churn out the points home and away.
Kenni Algreen returns as a club asset after impressing on a Euro loan last year. A young and exciting rider, Kenni will be looking to push on next year.
Jamie Airey, the club's first ever JJ rider finally made the first team last year and impressed greatly. This year he will start in the main body and so will have his work cut out. If he can maintain his average then he will have done a great job.
Mike Lowry is a new addition, who joins on loan from Blunsdon. Hes a rider weve tracked for a long time and did enquire about a full transfer, however he is a rider who is highly respected down the road and unfortunately we were unable to tempt them.
Hynek Pouznar is the final name, a rider who i know from m Czech under 21 duties. He's very raw at the moment, but has a lot of talent and is very keen to learn. All he has to do is look around the pits for inspiration and there is every chance that he will come on in leaps and bounds this year.
Id also like to publicly apologise to Wolston & Sheffield. Unfortunately we had to retract transfer offers after having agreed deals with both clubs. There were circumstances that led us to believe that other deals had fallen through when they in fact hadnt and so we ended up with multiple offers on the table at the same time. Thankfully both clubs were highly cooperative so i would like to thank Tim & Andy for their understanding.
Now its time to get on with the racing!
