The first chance to ride off those post season cobwebs in Northumberland.
Never more than 4 between the sides up to Heat 13. Not a bad start for Briggs at #1, the rest were competitive, but no reason to bust a gut in the first match of the new season.
TWEEDSIDE TIGERS 50 WORKINGTON LOGHEADS 40
1. Mark Briggs............... 2 3 3 1 2 - 11
2. Hans Lehsmeyer............ 1* 1 3 0 - - 5+1
3. Tony Clipstone............ 2 1 0 1 - - 4
4. Dexter Last............... 0 3 2 1 - - 6

6. Janne Sarjale............. 3 0 0 0 - - 3
7. Joonas Juhola............. 1 0 1 0 - - 2
The return fixture at home went much better. The Finnish tail worked very well and Lehsmeyer got man of the match for his home debut. The Logheads got the Aggregate victory to boot. WORKINGTON LOGHEADS 53 (93) TWEEDSIDE TIGERS 37 (87)

Newmarket sent out an early warning shot to the league, running the Logheads very close. Both teams look well balanced and if Hoskins can stay on his bike, will challenge Workington for promotion.

Cedergren and Janicek buil.t the platform for Raiders, despite Workington's best efforts. A thrilling match with no quarter asked or given. Heat 11 stood out as Lehsmeyer made the gate from Stoyanov, was forced to ride under severe pressure for 3 laps, before Briggs went wide and took them both for the second Workington 5-1 of the night.

Workington put up a business like performance in the first leg at Tunstall, limiting them to a 4 point lead. Ruzucha had his best meeting of the season so far and Briggs led the team well. However, it was the 5-1 from Lehsmeyer and Juhola in Heat 8 that ensured the Terriors didn't get away.

Full maximum for Briggs and a paid maximum for Ruzucha were the highlights for a professional performance from the Logheads. Edgar kept things interesting for Tunstall.

Week 1 and Logheads were in Kent on the Spitfire (Management only of course).
Unfortunately, Plant decided to ride inspired and with only Le Saux having a bad day, Workington were right up against it. A team meeting before Heat 8 and the tactical ride for Ruzucha saw an impact and Workington went from 10 down to only two points. Unfortunately, the home side disappeared into the changing rooms and came out fired up, posting two maximums and putting them back in control.

Workington have stressed to Juhola that his place is under threat as Logheads lost again. Clipstone didn't win a race, but the team rely on all riders pulling their weight. Last orders had been rung in Newmarket before the team was able to meet the travelling faithful and share a coke or two.

We couldn't compete with the Crusaders top two of Helinen and Montsach. Workington are back where they were two seasons ago and even Ruzucha looks to be struggling. Clipstone pleaded with the fans afterwards for time, but these aren't patient fans. Sarjale had best meeting for Workington. Will things wait for change in GSA?

Finally, Workington have points this season. Much celebration in the home camp afterwards. New rider pairings worked a treat. Off for a lie down.

We beat the Welsh wizards, doesn't happen very often. Workington remember how to win again. New partnerships working fine. Moore from Gems might have got Starman and kept the score close, but the locals all agreed Sarjale was their choice.

The World Championships have completed the semi final stages.
Briggs has failed to reach the British Final, but only just.
Clipstone got a ride as track reserve in the other semi final.
Razucha finished 4th after a run off for the final place on the rostrum. So qualifies for the European Final.
Niemi did stand on the rostrum, 3rd after a run off. So qualifies for the Scandinavian Final.

Workington have won a trophy.
After getting into the final as best runner up in the group stages, Workington left Hampden with the biggest grins and the silverware.
WORKINGTON LOGHEADS 41, Hull 36, Tunstall 31.
1. Anders Solberg............ 3 3 1* 3 1* 1 12+2 2. Mark Briggs............... 2* 2* 2 2* 2 0 10+3 3. Dexter Last............... 1 Fx 1 0 2* 3 7+1 4. Vaclav Ruzucha............ 0 1 3 3 3 2* 12+1 5. Janne Sarjale............. Did not ride
Solberg was quick to pay tribute to Briggs as the pair scored three max's. Last took a while to settle, but also scored two 5-1s in their last two races. A solid performance by all 4 riders.

It's not often the bottom of the league visit the league leaders and are frustrated that they lost. We only went down by 2, but the new look Logheads gave Rye a fright and only falls in points paying positions for Solberg in Heat 1 and Zabek in Heats 12 and 14 robbed us of a rare away win.
Workington are looking better.

For those people who have written off our chances of survival, Chantry would have lost the match, but for the injury to Mark. Montsach was always trying to impress the visiting Aussie Manager, but taking Briggs to the fence was not what was required. Zabek had his best return and we hope he is finding his feet in the Power class.
