Teesside Transporters boss Graeme Bailey refused to talk about his side's opening 45-45 draw with Tilbury - instead turning his attentions to the NSSPA.
Teesside were furious when they learnt the NSSPA has scheduled them to ride against Tilbury in pre-season a week before the opening league meeting against the same opposition.
When Bailey tried to contact the NSSPA he was met with a wall of silence leaving Teesside no options but having to ride the meeting.
"Once again Teesside have suffered at the hands of the NSSPA - in their wisdom they do not think clubs have the ability to organise pre-season friendlies, so they do that instead - but clearly the clubs would do better jobs as never before have I know for a club to organise a friendly against a side they would be riding against the week after.
"We lodged a protest but the NSSPA did not even dignify us with a response - which we feel is disgusting behaviour on their part, they could have re-arranged the fixtures very easily.
"We feel it was unfair in every way to make us ride at home to a team that rode the Dock Yard the week before. We rode under protest and it was little surprise Tilbury taking something from the meeting.
"To be honest it stems back to our signing of Lewie Carr, which they did everything they could to try and stop, and probably also dates back further to when they stopped us signing our own asset Giles Hill last season for no good reason other their personal opinion.
"It stinks, and we are not happy but what can we do?"
"It is getting to the point where the NSSPA, dictate friendlies, dictate transfer fees - give personal opinions on signing riders - it is getting beyond a joke."

Shots fired?
It's like standing outside the testing room of a machine gun factory.
I don't do the fixtures but it's obviously just a quirk of the way they were done. I can say that it would make no difference to the result if they'd ridden against each other all 3 friendly weeks though.
Loving the controversy as always though 😀

I think the complaint letter must be at the bottom of the in-tray from Teesside at the NSSPA offices - assuming a staff of 10 working 8 hour days, Monday to Friday, it should get to the top sometime around week 12 of the fixtures

Graeme, I am going to be honest here. When I saw your email about racing Tilbury in a friendly then in the league it was bad timing as my brother-in-law was nearing the end of a battle with terminal cancer which he unfortunately lost last Tuesday evening. This is no excuse I know but I wasn't very sympathetic to your cause and my thought was really this is what someone is moaning about. Please accept my apologies.
However, and I hope I am not speaking out of turn for the NSSPA, if you want to put a motion forward for managers to arrange friendly matches between themselves then I am sure we will discuss it and put out a vote as we did for a change to the junior set up which came from ideas put forward. I think the idea to just put a friendly fixtures together was to speed up the process so we could get the league running asap.
Onto your signing of Lewie Carr. This was discussed at length and we came down in your favour. 3 to 1 I believe it was.
I don't really remember what happened with Giles Hill so can't comment on that.
I personally like your passion for the game and look forward to your communications with us as it usually gives us something to think about.....please don't stop. As I said I am sorry I didn't take your issue with the friendly/league fixtures very seriously. It was unprofessional of a NSSPA member and won't happen again........unless you give the Lightning a stuffing when we meet then you will never get anything past me again!! :-)

Firstly my sympathies go to Rob and his family at this sad time.
Graeme knows only too well why we put together the preseason fixture list, because some managers paid little attention to it and we were always left completing the unfinished lists up to the night before tactics were due. That is why I made no comment.
I have always supported long term fixtures between clubs where we could.
If it goes to a vote perhaps Graeme would like the job of unraveling the unmade fixtures, lol!
So it was far better we took the upper hand, as said we love Graeme and his passion he does some real work behind the scenes to get what he wants. KEEP it UP as it does test us fully.
As for the rest it is history.
All the best to you all for the season.

For what its worth I am fine with the friendlies being arranged by the NSSPA as it removes a lot of hassle for both the promoters and I guess the NSSPA.
With regards to back to back fixtures then SIM reflects how it is in speedway in general. Just look at the number of times Glasgow raced Somerset back to back towards the end of last season.
Graeme, I would console yourself that you have what looks like a strong title chasing team and I am sure you will have silverware this season.
