Youngster Make Cubs Debut
Charlemont Chargers today finally launched there youth academy, giving debuts to four under 15 year olds in a new Sim Speedway competition called the Junior 4 Team Tournament. It is a great platform for the youngsters and the club to showcase the next generation. Its great to see these meetings happening after a dedicated push from Steven Hunt manger of the Chargers to see an addition to the current team structure in Sim.
The opening meeting was not a great result for the Chargers with them just scoring 17 points the lowest amount from the two groups but in this situation it is about the development of riders and how they can push on and maybe one day ride in the senior side or maybe even see a world champion emerge.
CHARLEMONT CHARGES 17
1. Nick Emerson.............. 2 R 3 1 1 = 7 - An impressive start for young Nick who took the nominated ride and came third in a strong line-up
2. Michael Flynn............. 0 0 1 1 = 2 - Difficult afternoon for Mike but a didn't fail to score on his debut
3. Ben Robinson.............. 3 Fx 1 1 = 5 - Unlucky in second ride, was leading until fell after hitting the inside kerb. Struggled to recover from that
4. Alistair Burns............ 1 0 R 2 = 3 - Again unlucky when in a points scoring position when his bike had a mechanical failure.
Manager Steven Hunt Comments
'This is what we have been dreaming off, making this club an school of speedway and to bring these young lads through. To be honest with you I dont think all clubs should just been given riders and then just expect to send them out each week. Clubs should be supporting this with financial backing, a pay to play kind of system which then will see the dedicated managers invest and then reap the rewards.'
'I am very passionate about the Cubs, they are the future but the system is a bit saturated now, we have 40 riders from each league so that is 160 new riders added to sim, in my opinion it just dont seem the best way an we now have a saturated market. I know some lads wont continue to be professionals but every team isnt going to invest the time and effort as we would like to these young lads.'
'We hope to build an academy track very soon and then hope that the NSSPA will agree that to have this Junior side that you have to enter each year at a fee, or a cost to keep the upkeep of the academy. Some clubs I dont believe want this extra burden and maybe when it rolls out next year we have a different kid of league structure.'
'The lads did well today, not great points haul but its the first time out of a new track and we will help them develop for next time and then hopefully we can score a few more points. This is just the beginning, you can see what this club ha already done for youth, you have Craig in our side who rode in the JJ before, we have developed Ray France from the lightning and he will go on to big things and we have even found a ride for Tyler Sweetman who is riding at Foxhall this year and scored 3 points home and away on his debut in a overall win the KOC opener and then in the first league fixture scored 5+2 to give the an away draw at Westwood.'
'We are dedicated to these youngster and we wish them all the continued best and support this year'
