After a eight point victory by the Lion’s over the Don’s at the Bankside Stadium in the preseason friendlies the Lion’s came back to earth with a bang with a 14 point defeat.
It’s fair to say the return of the Sheffield promotion to the UL is greatly welcomed by the Lion’s but the scale of the defeat however was very unwelcome.
Hayden Woods showed his class and skills to race to 16 points and the Lion’s No.1 is starting as he means to continue.
Steen Eriksen was a shadow in comparison to previous 13 points haul during the pre-season match at Sheffield. It’s understood that Steen had a number of mechanical issues, which will need to be revolved quickly.
Leon Jeppesen had a steady match but must be able to be able to provide heat winners if the Lion’s are to obtain any silverware this season.
The middle order of the team, Hannes Ulriksen and Nils Olsen need to put some practice in and be able to score much more than two paid three between them. The Lion’s management recognised that they were asking a lot of these two riders when they were signed but the riders knew that and accepted the challenge.
The reserves did better with Vestergaard starting brightly and fading and Flanagan showing some improvement after some additional coach from Stuart Hudson mid week prior to the match.
In summary it is the first match of the season and an away match but the Lion’s must do much better than this.
