A hard fought home win for the Lightning against new boys Sheffield Dons. Not a lot between the teams until consecutive 4-2s from heat 12 -14 gave us a 5 point advantage going into heat 15. Plenty of controversy in the first attempt to run the final heat when the previously unbeaten Tibor Nemecek powered under Jean-Marc Struthers only for Struthers to take a "dive" and slide into the fence. Tibor rode round and told him in no uncertain terms what he thought of his antics. The former Lynn asset miraculously jumped to his feet and the pair butted helmets before being pushed apart. The referee then bizarrely excluded Tibor as he said he unsettled Struthers causing his fall. He obviously doesn't know it's a man's sport and there was no need for Struthers to fall. A fact I pointed out to the referee to no avail. Tibor and Struthers both copped fines for their altercation. Heat 15 was then re-run and much to the delight of the crowd David Bedford stormed to victory with Struthers at the back.
Huge praise this week goes to Carsten Ostenstad who scored an excellent 10 points on home debut. His passing moves were a delight to watch as he soon got to grips with the track. I would like to see him gate a bit better though. Both Kenneth Krough and Ray France had race wins and the reserves chipped in with 3 apiece. Sheffield fought well with Struthers and Lynn loanee McChesney topping their scorechart. So two matches and two wins not a bad start to the defence of our title. Lanarkshire up next who are always tough to race against but I am confident we can make it three on the bounce.
