Wednesfield Wanderers manager Steve Morgan took a break and time to reflect on the season with Wednesfield in the Power League after announcing his England Test Match Teams which take place prior to the WTC.
Wednesfield finished the season in 5th place and narrowly missed out on a promotion place meaning they spend a 4th season in the 2nd tier. Morgan added, "we have had some highs and lows this season. One very personal high is the fact that we managed to keep our 4 year record of being undefeated at the Kingo Arena. We won the AL in our first season and to maintain 3 years unbeaten at home in the PL is a great credit to all the riders that have ridden for me in those 4 years and also the great support we receive week in week out by our fans. The track staff always produce a great surface for racing which suits the technical riders as it's quite tight, but it produces some great races and greater meetings."
When asked about the riders who performed during the season, Morgan added, "The skipper Phil Hayes struggled start of the season in the number 1 racejacket. When the averages moved him into the body of the team, he found some confidence and got some great scores. Neil Johnston has been a great loanee. He stepped into the number 1 jacket after Phil, and performed well there and at 5. Peter Doyle then stepped in after Johno, as he was in super form mid season and continued to be solid. The 4th heat leader I had, Igor Alenchev, never really got going for us and hit the heavy scores week in week out that I thought he might. The double pointers were few and far between. Janne Sarjale was a gem of a find for us and he had a great first season. I was also pleased with how another young gun, Dylan Goess performed when he joined mid season. That change occurred due to Les Holmes and Karl Sorensen not performing as expected at reserve, and we never got to see any real good scores from Lewis Miller and Jenko Buljat."
when asked on next seasons plans, Morgan added, " I will not shy away from saying what I want normally, but transfer windows are not normal anymore and I have been making plans, albeit closed chested ones, on next season. I will see plenty of quality riders at the WTC and also at the Under 21's so we will have to wait and see, and see how much money the new Sponsors Lounge has generated along with additional sponsorships......"
