Well as Cilla Black would say Surprise Surprise, the Lanarkshire Lion’s gain an away draw at the current ULNo.1 team.
A great team performance and could have been so much more if Mads Vestergaard had not fallen in his second ride and ruled himself out of the rest of the match.
The only note of concern for the Lanarkshire team was that of the form of Lion’s No.2 Hannes Ulriksen. The Lion’s management realised when putting the side together this season that there would be a lot of pressure on the No.2 rider shoulders and unfortunately it looks as though the club will need to try and help Hannes to find his feet in a strong UL.
Club coach Stuart Hughes and team Captain Steen Eriksen had a behind close doors training session at the Carrickstone Arena where they looked at Hannes bikes and general technique. Coach Stuart Hughes reported back to team manger Charlie Gow that Hannes has the talent required to be a good UL rider but that his confidence is very low and at No.2 has a difficult role to complete for the Lion’s. “A run at reserve would help Hannes confidence no end but with a long tail the team needs everyone to do their jobs” Charlie was overheard saying to a club steward.
Hopefully Hannes will gain some confidence in the up coming KO Cup home and away matches and the Lion’s can go from strength to strength.
