London Jets Promoter, Steve Morgan was in good spirits when giving a recent interview.
Steve is one of speedways busiest managers, looking after 2 teams (Wednesfield in the UL and London Jets in the EL) also manages East Europe at WTC events at both Aenior and Under 21 level, and has many interests outside of speedway too, which eat into his valuable family time.
Steve added, "there are numerous times when I will awaken at 3am thinking about a coaching drill needed to do with kids, at 4am I'll think about a pending disciplinary in my day job and then at 5am what changes I need to make to get Wednesfield competitive again. My life is no different to any other manager really, it's how you juggle things about. But when the important tool you use decides it doesn't want to play ball any more, then you really end up that street without a paddle!!"
"My London life though is pretty steady. We are competing at the right end of the table, we could do with a spark from the team, and I would rather it come from within the septet, but we are ticking along nicely without too much intervention from me. We have one of the best number 1's in Vaclav Cervenka who will be very close to knocking on a PL or UL by the end of the season, a good engine room with the experience of Phil Hayes and youthful endeavour of Hunter Nelson and Matyas Pacek. Stefan Botezatu has had a really good spell at reserve and his form has pushed him into the top 5, which he thoroughly deserves. It has meant a drop to reserve for Lahti Rytenen, and that isn't a bad reflection of him, he has been steady, but now he has a real good opportunity to feet some big points from there, and Mitchell Spink is improving meeting by meeting, week by week into a solid reserve at this level. I took a gamble wih this kid last season and hasn't let anyone down with his effort and performances......"
Asked what his hopes were for the rest of season, Morgan added, "Silverware! Whether it via a promotion or a Cup of sorts, to win and be successful is what we are all in this game for......."
