The Milton Keynes Cats have swept to make a change to their league-leading side in what will be a shock to most onlookers. "On the face of it, it's a harsh move." said Cats boss Sean Wood, "But Rickie understands. He's on board with what we're trying to do here. I think our greatest enemy in sim speedway is often complacency, and I want to make sure that doesn't hit us."
"On paper it seems an odd move, to drop Rickie when he's gone from just over 6 points to 7.7, and even more so to bring in a rider on 6.5, but you have to look deeper to find my reasoning. Over the first 5 weeks of the league season, Rickie averaged 8.17, over the last 5 weeks? 4.84. His form has dropped off a cliff unfortunately, and while I like the guy, I have to put the Cats first. Be assured this isn't the last time we'll be seeing Rickie in Milton Keynes kevlars, he has a future in this league and he has a future with the Cats, and he'll continue to be a presence at The Grovedale throughout the remainder of the season, and he'll continue to be around and about in the pits."
Abe Zevenbergen is delighted to be making his return to the Cats from his Euro League team Warsaw "I wash very dishappointed to be left out of the Catsh side, but understood. I wash victim of my own success, with Kryz they had to sign, and my average was high. I'm back now though, and i'm ready."
The Cats boss had this to say of his returnee "Abe was currently averaging the equivalent to 7.2 in the euro league prior to us picking him up, but his official average is still 6.58. He's almost a reverse of Rickie, aside from his 15 point max debut for Warsaw, over his first 4, he averaged 7.3, and upped his game to 8.4 over the next 4 meetings. He's made changes and they have had an effect, and now he's back in the Ultimate League on an average of 6.8, and I know he has the ability to take that up to, and even beyond the 8.4 he achieved last season, he knows and loves our track, and he knows the way around other tracks in this league, it's going to be exciting!"
This week the Cats managed an aggregate victory over Wantage to make their way into the KOC Final, the key to such a result was likely the strong performance in the home leg, which saw superb performances from Kryznowek and Johannessen, 3 race wins from Terczak, and a sublime return of 9 from injury returnee Ryan Betts. The second leg was much more difficult, but the Cats got to the magical 41 mark and did what was necessary to make the final, where we'll face a resurgent Teesside, who hit 101, while seeing off Sheffield with wins both home and away. "The Final is going to be difficult, Teesside will make sure of that, they're flying right now, but we stand a chance. Whatever happens, it'll be a hell of a final."
