Teesside claimed victory over Lanarkshire Lions - their eighth successive win - to put themselves in contention for the UL title with two meetings left.
The Transporters made big changes a few weeks ago, which saw skipper Hans E Bergestol drop down to reserve, and it has worked as the Norwegian superstar has hit double figures in every meeting since.
Now Teesside are just a point adrift of title favourites Milton Keynes, with two matches left - the last of which is the Cats at the Dock Yard, but stay in with a chance - the Transporters are going to need to win at King's Lynn next time out in the league.
"We really are at the business end, we have the league campaign and the KO Cup final - but it is the league we have to concentrate on first. We have two meetings left, a possible six points, so it is possible - but we will need to take all six points, so we need to win at King's Lynn - which is a daunting task, although we have won our last three meetings on the road, so we know we are capable," said team boss Graeme Bailey.
"When we changed our team dropping Luke Treadwell to put Hans at reserve, a number of people criticised us but our fans stayed with us and we have responded by delivering them a title challenge, which is all they wanted - yes they want the title, but this is the first time we have been active at this time of the season.
"And if we can be riding against MK on the final day, for the title - we could be in the for the greatest title decider of all time- but we have a lot to do before that."
Away from the battle for silverware, Bailey confirmed Ironopolis X would be taking place in the week of the KO Cup.
"Invites have gone out, again we are hopeful that some of the world's best will be mixing it with some new names and some exciting youngsters," said Bailey.
