The scramble for riders is almost upon us as teams try to build their sides for the upcoming season. We are delighted to that our top two from last season, Erik Davidsson and Martin Shaw will be staying with us for another year. Both are away on WTC duty at the moment but have agreed in principle to spearhead us for another UL season. They are also both in the GPs this season and their experience will be invaluable in our attempt to challenge for the title. Two other assets who will be in our starting line-up come tapes-up are Jean-Marc Struthers and Peter Doyle. Jean-Marc had a steady first season with us last time and will be looking to push on and get his average up above the 6 point mark. Peter has been our asset for a long time now and has been out on loan for the past two seasons. I am pleased to be able to use him in the UL at last on the back of a very successful season for him at Wednesfield where he ended up as the number one. He has been a slow burner since winning the AL Riders Championship way back when but I believe his time to shine is here.
Because of changes to the league set-ups, and with speedway being a numbers game, some riders will have to look for other team spots this season. Halle Soderberg (8.17) and Sam McCurdy (6.95) have expressed a desire to move on this season. I am disappointed to have to let them go but won't stand on their way. Both have served the club well over the years and have increased their averages each season. I am surprised I haven't received any offers for either rider yet. Get in touch fellow UL managers these are good UL riders up for grabs. There is also Jamie Vaughan (7.03) who we are going to loan out. He recently made his England debut and will be a strong rider for any team willing to give him a go. Again no offers yet received so get in touch.
We also have Jon Nysted and Shane Rumsey both to loan out. Jon would rather go into the PL and Shane into the EL but both would listen to offers from other leagues. Any managers out there looking for talented up and coming riders to fill their team please get in touch. I am not looking for huge loan fees just a place for them to ride.
Finally our young JJ rider from last season, Ray France, will be taking his first AL steps with Charlemont. I'm sure they will look after him and treat him well and I will be keeping a close eye on his progress.
So come on managers get in touch. There are deals to be done and good riders to be snapped up.......don't be shy.
