The latest name added to the side is somewhat of a surprise with a return to speedway for Martin Payne. Club owner Andy Dixon takes up the story.
"Martin joined Brighton Sharks in the 2012 Development League and had an excellent first season before the move to the Juvenile Jaunt structure for young riders. Over the next 2 years his form declined and in truth he fell out of love with the sport and packed in at the end of a second disappointing JJ season.
Riding was affecting his schoolwork and he's a clever lad so he just wasn't giving speedway his full attention. He decided to take 2 years out to do his A-levels and got some great results so for him as an individual he definitely made the right decision. Martin has since got a place at Sheffield University but wants to have another go at speedway. He has moved up here but is going to take a year out before he starts studying and we're delighted he has agreed to join us. He was always a rider with talent as his debut DL season shows but I don't think the individual aspect of the JJ suited him at all without the support of a team around him.
At Sheffield we aim to provide a proper coaching network for young riders so the fit is perfect. He's going to give it 100% this season and see where that gets him. Martin is excited and we're excited about the new campaign.
He's mature ahead of his years and comes with the potential of a teenager but the head of a much older lad on his shoulders. I'm sure this will be a productive season for us all and there aren't many brighter prospects or individuals around.
As for the rest of the side we are following interest in a rider who would be an amazing capture for the club but more on that when we know the results of our offer."
So the side as it stands now looks like:
1. Simon Stevens 7.95
2. Lukasz Szymkowiak 6.00
3. Martin Payne 7.25
4. Arlo Evaristo 6.65
5.
6. Janek Bartousek 5.99
