Week 19
EL – 1065 Stomped into Stoker Park to see Whitby vs Tweedside, with the visiting Tigers taking the away win if not he Bonus Point. They were treated to a real see-saw affair and a feast of speedway fare. Andrew Wiliamson and Matus Strececz tipped the balance for Tweedside with a 1-5 in the final heat to grab the win.
PL – 1353 Danced their way into Dunlop Road Raceway as the hosting Tilbury Dockersbeat Reading Rebels by 50-39 (94-85) - A pretty comfortable home win for the Dockers despite an off night for the usually impeccable Eric Bjork. The other 6 Dockers rallied together and scored solidly to keep Tilbury at the summit of the table.
EL – 2196 Braved the Bullet Arena to see Bottesford Bullets beat the visiting Kings Lynn Lightning by 48-41, they also bagged the extra bonus point in the process (90-89) though the meeting was marred by a sickening crash that saw Bullets' reserve Zoltan Stepukhin's season end with an arm injury. The bullets hit back from an being 3-8 down after the opening two heats to take the win and ll but mathematically secure their UL status - they currently sit 3rd behind Milton Keynes Cats and the powerful Workington Logheads.
AWAYS
Whitby Vampires 43 Tweedside Tigers 47 - A close encounter of the speedway kind with a few plot twists thrown in. Tweedside narrowed the gap on Whitby in the league and currently sit 6th place. A few more of these away wins and they will be sitting prettier still.
Leyton Rockets 43 (88) Necrons 47 (92) - the visiting Necrons riders claimed 11 of the 15 race winners, keeping their title hopes alive in the process - Necrons' No.1 1 Eddie Mendoza (d) his way through the card in a classy display of bikesmanship.
Maximums
Eddie Mendoze (Necrons) 15 (5) - Eddie led from the front in a faultless display that helped his side stay top of the pops with a fine away win
Janek Bartousek (Sheffield Dons) 13+2 (5) grabbed a paid maximum as the Dons kept their own title hopes alive by taking all three points in their 48-42 home win over the improved Harlow Hawks, who rued the loss of Julien Comparin.
Injuries
Julien Comparin (Harlow) - Cracked a rib in Heat 15 spill - out for 1 week
Hunter Nelson (Leyton) - Bruised his knee in a Heat 7 spill - Misses 1 week
Dave Langfield (Aberavon) - Unwell after a Heat 14 fall - ok for next week though
Zoltan Stepukhin (Bottesford) - Badly broken arm - Out for the rest of the season as a result
Vaclav Ruzucha (Workington) - twisted ankle in spill - misses 1 week
