Legend Iain Hines has confirmed he is returning to Sheffield and on a full transfer deal.
This means two of the three riders to have been awarded a testimonial with a club will lineup for the Dons. Hinesy and Simon Stevens both got their meetings after 10 seasons as Owlerton Owls' assets, Stephen Trowbridge being the other to reach the landmark - also with the Owls.
Manager James Dixon said, "It's great to have two loyal riders leading the side and I hope they will do so for many years to come. It would have been amazing to have Trowers in too but his ambitions lie at a higher level at the moment but let's not rule out seeing him back in Sheffield in the future!
The team will be completed by Dexter Last who joins on loan and with the experienced riders helping him I think he can make good progress this season.
We have a great setup and a very balanced team, both in terms off averages and experience.
I want Simon and Iain to lead from the front and then we have 4 young riders to support them with solid scores in each meeting and Dexter looking to add crucial points at the bottom. We've certainly got enough strength to win matches and we're not going to be easy to beat home and away. We have a great setup off the track with Gary Carr leading a srong coaching staff, two leading riders with bags of experience and our link with the nearby English Institute of Sport will only help."
So the starting 7 for the new venture will be as below and there is a definite buzz about the place and on the fans' forums.
1. Simon Stevens 7.95
2. Lukasz Szymkowiak 6.00
3. Martin Payne 7.25
4. Arlo Evaristo 6.65
5. Iain Hines 7.11
6. Janek Bartousek 5.99
7. Dexter Last 3.98
Team Total 44.93
In other news young Sheffield asset Luke Patryk has been loaned out to AL side Bottesford for the season.
Promoter Andy Dixon said of the move, "We considered Luke for our side but honestly I think he needs another season in the AL and we were delighted to do the deal with Bottesford. They look like a good setup with genuine drive and ambition and they're pretty local to us which makes things easier for Luke and also helps us keep him included with some our practice and training which can only benefit the lad.
I know I've spent many years in the top flight with the Owls but honestly I'm as excited as I've ever been about the Sheffield Dons and the new Evolution League."
