Week 5
EL –1079 launched themselves into the Leyton Stadium to see their Rockets fire enough to beat the visiting Old Stager's Estuary Whales side. The Whales ran their hosts mightily close, almost giving Fred a lift off of his own. Leyton's Brett Harkins and #7 Luke Cook sparkled for a Rockets' team who looked to be home and hosed with a 10 point lead after 12 heats, but the Whales came roaring back with a flourishing finish to almost grab a share of the spoils. Jordan Trott and Will Pocovskiu were the pick of the Estuary team
PL – 1698 cantered to the Carrickstone Arena where Lanarkshire Lions beat their travelling Hebridean rivals, Hampden Eagles, 48-41 in a meeting that lifted a few kilts with excitement. The visiting Eagles held a narrow but vital 1 point lead after the opening 6 races before a pivotal run of three heat advantages (2 of which were big 5-1's) from the Lions tipped the meeting in their favour. Theodor Patocka (again) and Erling Troelsen were the pick of the Lanrakshire team whilst Lorenzo Turati and Tristan Bonham-Wells spearheaded the Eagles' efforts.
UL – 161 gathered at the Grovedale where MK Cats triumphed over their guests Reading Rebels 47-42. The Rebels came close and deservedly led 31-35 after 11 engrossing races but then Nicolai Arentoft was controversially excluded as being the cause of a Heat 12 crash, MK's Craig Leonard and in form reserve, Riley Payne, romped home unopposed as Alex Kutesov retired with engine failure in the re-run. The Cats then shored up and won by 5 points as their season looks to be back on track.
AWAYS
Border Braves 43 Denham Dragons 47 - The Dragons' impressive debut season continued as they won again to stay unbeaten. The Dragons' roar was loud and they were good value for their win on the road. They limited their hosts to only 3 heat advantages in a solid display - Brad Bouchard and Kim Knutsson were imperious in the win as Denham remain the only team with a 100% record in UK speedway so far - IMPRESSIVE
Wolston Warriors 43 Canvey Island Castaways 46 - The Warriors woes continue as they lost again and also suffered further as star man Carter Fortin crashed out of the meeting with a leg injury, that fortunately proved to be a lesser injury than first feared. Rhodri Szczygiel was in great form for the Castaways whilst Fortin, Brad Foster and newboy Nick Swart scored the bulk of the points for Wolston who will be eyeing up the transfer market for certain rel soon.
Wantage Kings 44 Bottesford Bullets 46 - The Bullets raced into a 6 point lead after the opening 9 races and held off a threatened comeback to take the points back to Lincolnshire. GP stars Petr Marko and Ray France led the way for the Bullets but were backed up by the others whilst Kenni Algreen starred for Wantage.
