Week 10
EL – 1210 Loomed large at Leven Road where East London Renegades handed out a sound beating to the visiting Aldershot Apaches. Admittedly the 'Shots loss of reserve Lance Geran was a blow, however the horse was out of the stable and into the next field in truth, as the visitors came in last in 13 of the 15 races. ELR were solid throughout and pretty comfortable all meeting, whilst the Apaches relied far too heavily on Lewie Carr, in particular, as he Vadim Lebedev and Blair Fry scored 29 of the travellers points. Rhett Hodge (14 from 5) and Henry Valentine 12/5) led the points for the Londoners.
PL – 1680 bundled into Bowmount Park, where the hosting Tweedside Tigers and visiting Hampden Eagles put on an entertaining all Scottish affair. The home side raced into a commanding 21-9 lead after 5 Heats before the Eagles riders dialled in and started to hit back, managing to close the gap to 2 points by the time the black and white flag dropped at the end of Heat 11 before the Tigers stretched out again with heat advantages in 12 and 13. A shared heat 14 put Tweedside mathematically in the box seat, but Hampden's Lorenzo Turati and Jaroslav Zlechy outpaced the home duo of Karlis Vitols and Nick Ambrose to see the final score Tweedside 47 Hampden 43 and every Tiger claiming at least a paid win as their greater squad depth told in the end. A great advert for the sport North of the Border.
UL – 2260 Sample Speedway at Smallmead, where the hosting Reading Rebels were undone by bottom placed Wolston Warriors. The final score of Reading 44 Wolston 46 did not flatter the resurgent Warriors as they revelled in the dry conditions, where they were 10 head after the opening 9 match ups. Wolston's, Enzo Innacone (9 from his opening 4 races, followed by a last heat fall) and Carter Fortin (11+1 from 5), were ably supported by their team mates as Reading came roaring back at the travelling septet, and had Steve Edgar, Rafal Aranowski and Nicolai Arentoft, in particular, to thank for getting close to the Warwickshiremen, but Wolston hung on for a memorable away victory.
AWAYS
EL - Stowmarket Scorpions 43 Richmond Cheetahs 47 - The Cheetahs fired their title charge warning shot with a solid performance at Stowmarket. The scores remained close for the whole of the meeting as the visitors kept pace with their hosts throughout. Eddie Mabo (12 from 5) and Bartek Janowski (12 from 5), starred for the Scorpions, with a notable effort from young Adam Austin at reserve, whilst Richmond's scores carried greater depth, with Alex Van Maurik and Ryan Roy dominant. Richmond remain hot on the heels of the new boys from Denham, who sit a solitary point above them.
UL - Reading Rebels 44 Wolston Warriors 46 ( also see above) - Warriors resurgence continued with a fine away victory at Reading's Smallmead. The Warriors werre ahead 22-32 and managed to stave off the inevitable Rebels fightback to take the points back home with them, recording back to back victories in the process. The acquisitions of Innacone and Baluch seem to have had an inspirational effect on their new team.
Maximums
Erling Troelsen (Lanarkshire lions) 15 (5) - A faultless tally for the Dane, who's season has started so well and who's form has helped the Scotsmen set the pace at the top of the Power League.
Kenni Algreen (Wantage Kings) 14+1 (5) - Algreen spearheaded the Kings' comprehensive home victory over Hull Angels (52-38)
Injuries
Lance Geran (Aldershot Apaches) - fell, breaking his let ankle and will be out a lengthy 8 weeks
That's Yer lot for this week folks - stay safe
