Week 11
EL – 1189 jammed into the Jayar Arena as home outfit Stowmarket Scorpions held off the challenge of Leyton Rockets to win 47-43. Scorpions' #6 Adam Austin put in a stellar showing as he scored 12+3 (6) to help the hosts to a win, that at 21-27 in 8 races, had looked most unlikely. Austin combined well with Charlie Humphreys in Heat 14 to claim a big 5-1, followed by a Heat 15 win where team mate Bartek Janowski grabbed a 3rd post in behind Leyton's Brett Harkins, that sealed the win.
PL – 1601 crammed into Camelot Arena to watch Chantry Crusaders 49 Newmarket Raiders 41. This was a real topsy turvey affair, as Chantry trailed after 7 heats with Newmarket looking good value. A Billy McGillivray/Martin Pytek 5-1 in Heat 8 levelled up proceedings before Chamtry powered home to take the spoils. This meeting was areal tonic for the local and visiting supporters with some fantastic racing throughout, a real advert for the Power League.
UL – 2213 hemmed into the Halas Owen to see UL new boys Necrons take on the resurgent Wantage Kings and they were not disappointed at all. Necrons have taken to the top flight like ducks to water but the Kings are a different prospect to the team that stuttered early doors in the campaign. The meeting was hotly contested and close right through with some outstanding racing and breathtaking passing. Wantage reserve, Robert Pusey was worth the entrance money alone and he had a good meeting, scoring 12 (7) and his Heat 14 win brought the scores level - his three race wins were a sign of his obvious talent
AWAYS
EL -Whitby Vampires 42 - Sheffield Dons 47 - Ben Case's heroics at #7 for the Vampires were in vain as the Dons were in fine form on their travels. Case managed 12+1 from 5 rides but he couldn't help the seasiders, as the Dons took the points. Sheffield's Stephen Trowbridge led the charge with 14 points but it was a really solid effort from the Yorkshiremen that proved too much for Whitby.
UL - Workington Logheads 44 Milton Keynes Cats 46 - The defending champions from Cumbria showed a chink in their armour as they went down to MKC in a closely contested meeting. In truth, the Cats put in a fine showing as they reeled in their hosts with a classy away performance. Big Pole, Boguslaw Kryznowek, scored freely, but he was backed up superbly by the recently signed Marcus Jay and his other team mates. Workington, unusually, looked a little off colour as they conceded a very rare home defeat.
