Week 15
EL – 1243 jogged into the Jayar Arena to watch Stowmarket Scorpions beat the travelling table topping, Denham Dragons by 49-41 (93-87) putting a dent in their title aspirations in the process, with a well deserved home win in a very entertaining meeting. The Scorpions were relatively solid throughout but Adam Austin @ #6 was excellent in scoring 11+1 whilst Brad Bouchard (14 from 6) and Kim Knutsson 10+2 (6) put up the main resistance from Denham
PL – 1557 rallied into the Raiders Dome where Newmarket lost at home 44-45 to a rampant Foxhall Vikings side, with their recently signed Kiwi, Bart Williamson, again in fine form, scoring 10+1 (5). Williamson was ably backed up by Ludek Janicek 14(5) and Guido Keusters and new reserve Eliot Rose also chipped in nicely 5+3 (5). The result sees Foxhall continue to climb the table whilst the Raiders share bottom spot with Tweedside Tigers.
UL – 2372 Ran to the Ridgeway Raceway where Wantage Kings and Reading Rebels put on a real show. The hosting Kings ran out 48 - 42 winners but the Rebels grabbed the BP with an aggregate win (Wantage 88 Reading 92). The Rebels took a 2-4 lead in the opener as Rafal Aranowski and Michael France held off Ralph Whelan and Kenni Algreen. In the reserves' race, John Honey (1st) and in form Robert Pusey (3rd) squared things up. Filipe Chong and James Vaughan grabbed a big home 5-1 in the 3rd race and Wantage never looked back, though Reading pushed all the way.
AWAYS
Newmarket Raiders 44 Foxhall Vikings 45 - The Vikings' resurgence continued with a close and hardly fought away win at Newmarket by the solitary point. The hosts took an early lead with two 5-1's in the opening 3 heats but Foxhall are a stronger team following recent changes and they refused to buckle. Keeping the scores close was the key for the visitors, who hit back late on to take the win on the night and the all important Bonus Point back to Suffolk.
Aberavon Gems 43 (89) Wolston Warriors 46 (90) - Early UL pacesetters Aberavon suffered a blow as the Wolston resurgence continues apace. The travelling Warriors came back from 40- 37 down to take the points with a Nick Swart/Oliver Rinne 2-4 in Heat 14, followed by an Enzo Innacone/Carter Fortin 1-5 in the nominated race seeing them home. The loss saw the patience of team boss, John Coles, crack as he swung the axe soon after the meeting, Pat Watkiss, who's early season from has disappeared dramatically, bearing the brunt of John's frustrations.
Maximums
Vadim Lebedev (Aldershot Apaches) 15 (5) - A faultess display from the Latvian in Aldershot's 49-41 loss @ Leyton - though Lebedev did secure his team the Bonus Point with a run off win over Ashley Goodwin to continue his perfect night in the saddle.
