Week 17
EL – 1161 leapt into Leven Road where hosts, East London Renegades put the visiting Denham Dragons to the sword, taking all the points. The 48-42 (91-89) victory put a big dent into the Dragons' title hopes as they now trail Richmond by 5 points despite a decent effort on the road, recovering from 8 down to go within 2 points after 11 heats before back to back 4-2's in 12 & 13 steered the Renegades into control again. Rhett Hodge and Juraj Popluhar were the pick of the home riders whilst Kim Knutsson, Alex Stewart and Brad Bouchard scored the bulk of the Dragons' points.
PL – 1487 - bundled into the Blunsdon Arena to see the Bombers crash land in a home defeat as they ran out 42-48 losers to the Jekyll & Hyde Kings Lynn Lightning. KL also bagged a handy BP with a convincing 17 point aggregate win in the process.Rob Murphy proved a revelation at #7 for the away side with 11 from his five rides and two impressive wins in his final two races. The Bombers got away to a good start to lead 9-3 after the opening two heats, but Lynn hit back hard to level things up before a 1-5 from Murphy and the in-form Alan Connor in heat 14 won it for the visitors.
UL – 2418 headed to Halas Owen to shout hurrah as their team Necrons beat the travelling Wolston Warriors 49 - 41 (96- 84). A blistering start from the hosts with two big 5-1's in th opening two races set them on their way to a solid home victory, though Wolston gave a good account of themselves on their travels. Shane Dwyer shone for the Necrons with a paid max at No.2 but he was ably supported by his team mates, five of whom took at least a paid heat win. The win keeps Necrons in the title hunt whilst Wolston sit bottom.
AWAYS
Blunsdon Bombers 42 Kings Lynn Lightning 48 - A solid Kings Lynn showing proved too much for the hosts, who struggled to match their visitors power. Michal Swaitek was sensation for Blunsdon with 14 form his five rides but he couldn't hold Kings Lynn off on his own. The Bombers were always in it until a 1-5 from Robert Murphy and Alan Connor, the pick of the visiting riders, took control of the meeting and bagged the points.
Border Braves 42 (85) Leyton Rockets 48 (95) - The Braves surrendered at home as the Rockets romped home to take the spoils recovering from 8 down to grab the win on the road. Duje Jukic was the pick of the home riders withe a fine 14 points, he was only beaten by a visiting rider when Scot. Brett Harkins flew around him to take the chequered flag in a thrilling Heat 13, where an away 2-4 put the Rockets 6 points ahead with two to race. Shared heats followed and the away win was sealed.
Lanarkshire Lions 43 (90*) Foxhall Vikings 47 (90) - The visiting Vikings grabbed a vital away win over a Lanarkshire team who sit in second spot in the table, one above them. Lanarkshire did secure the all important bonus point as Erling Troelsen pipped Wynton Te-Huna in the race off with the aggregate scored locked at 90 points apiece. The early loss of Teodor Patocka to illness clearly hitting the home side hard as his points were sorely missed by the Scots.
Maximums
Shane Dwyer (Necrons) grabbed a paid 12+3 (5) in the high flying Necrons home win over Wolston. The Necrons UL debut continues to impress as their title hopes remain alive.
Injuries
Jack Cawthorn (Hampden Eagles) - The young Aussie slipped on his boomerang and fell in Heat 8 - retiring sick - ok next meeting to play his didgeridoo
Nick Ambrose (Tweedside Tigers) - Veteran Englishman Ambrose came crashing to the shale in a collision with Chantry's Boris Dvoynev as they tussled for the same bit of track - ok next week
Boris Dvoynev (Chantry Crusaders) - Big bad Boris clashed with Nick Ambrose and neither of them came out the winner - ok next week
Glyn Cox (Sheffield Dons) - The South Yorkshiremen lost their recently signed reserve when he cramped up and fell - ok next week
Noah Nicholson (Canvey Island Castaways) - Noah was withdrawn after feeling unwell following a heavy fall in heat 10 of the away loss at Aberavon - Will make next week though
