Week 20
EL – 1291 Raucously rampaged into Rydale PArk to see the home side Border Braves beat the table topping Richmond Cheetahs 49-41 (92-88) - Border flew out of the traps, quite literally with an opening 5-1 from Duje Jukic and the outstanding Ross Flooks, and led by 12 points after 10 races. Richmond recovered a little but couldn't claw back the defecit. The loss put a dent in Richmond's title surge but they do still sit pretty at the summit of the Evolution League, 2 points clear of Denham in second spot. Ross Flooks was paid 13+2 (5) for the home side whilst Alex Van Maurik (14+1 from 6) was the pick of the visiting septet.
PL – 1744 Ventured up to the Viking Arena where the Foxhall Vikings narrowly despatched their visitors Chantry Crusaders 46-44 (83-97) - This was a cracking encounter and the hosts got off to a flyer with an opening heat 5-1 from Bart Williamson and Ludek Janicek, made all the more dramatic as Janicek acheived his second place coming off the 15m handicap after touching the tapes, reeling in the Chantry top two in some style. Chantry fought back with 2-4's to level things up before Foxhall pushed ahead to lead 21-15 after 6 races. They continued to take the meeting by the scruff of the neck and the lead was 45-39 after 14 heats but the pick of the Chantry side, Bjorn Haagensen (15+1 from 6 rides) and Grgo Kvaternik (11+2 fom 6) banged in a huge 1-5 to take the nominated race. The Crusaders secured the Bonus Point
UL – 2229 Huddled like hamsters at the Halas Owen where Necrons remained in contention at the top of the table with a 48-42 (93-87) win over the travelling Milton Keynes Cats. The recently changed Cats were in it until the final heat as the hosts led 43-41 but a final heat 5-1 from Necrons duo, Eddie Mendoza and Lukas Urbanik proved pivotal to the tie as the Necrons took all three point on offer to leave them very much in contention for the title in their debut season on the UL. They are also in the Knock Out Cup final so whatever happens they have enjoyed a cracking start in the top flight.
AWAYS
Tweedside Tigers 41 (81) Kings Lynn Lightning 49 (98) - A thumping 8 pt away win North of the border for the Norfolk visitors kept their promotion campaign alive. Kings Lynn took the lead with a couple of 1-5's in Heats 4 and 5 and never looked back - Once again Lynns' No.7 Robert Murphy was impressive with 14 pts from his 5 races as his average climbed back over 7 and he is proving a real trump card for the East Anglians in their promotion charge.
Estuary Whales 35 (79) Denham Dragons 55 (101) - The Bucksmen scored a thumping victory on the road in the Capital as they soundly thrashed Fred's Whales. Denham scored well throughout the team , crucially only taking 5 last places - rumour has it Fred's vocals stripped the paint in the home dressing room after the meeting as he let rip with his hairdryer treatment.
Maximums
Hayden Wood (Birmingham Bournevillains) - Wood's 15 (5) in the hosts comfortable 51-39 home win that put a spanner in Lanarkshire's title ambitions
Ross Flooks (Border Braves) - 13+2 (5) - Flooky banged in another big one in his best season for a while continues helping Border tame the table topping Cheetahs
Steve Edgar (Reading Rebels) - 15 (5) - GB star Edgar continued his fine season as Reading continued to heap misery on the visiting Hull Angels in the 50-40 home win
Andre Hayward (Bottesford Bullets) - 14+1 (5) - South African GP finalist Hayward weighed in with a paid max as the Bullets remained top with a 48-42 win over the Aberavon Gems
Injuries
