Chargers Charge To Victory Against Rowley
Charlemont Chargers completed there first every fixture with an 94-86 two legged win over local rivals the Rowley Raptors. Both meetings were very close, the first saw Charlemont win 50-40 at home at the newly developed All Saints Stadium. The meeting was closely contested until in heat 6 star rider Neil Johnstone was partnered by Ray France to complete The Prides first ever 5-1. In heat 7 however the Raptors bounced back stright away with Riku Uljas and John Stroud reversing the score back with there own 1-5. The meeting swung to and throw and it was a impressive display by Ray France who scored 8+1 and his points were vital to back up the big hitters at 1 and 5 to complete the win.
Then it was onto The Starbug where an even closer meeting was on show as the Chargers were narrowly defeated 46-44. An impressive show from Wayne Douglas scoring 9+3 from number 4 once again showed the middle order strength in the team to back up the oither riders scoring well for the team. The meeting was looking like a heavy defeat for the Chargers untill the last 5 heats saw three 2-4s and a single 1-5 in heat 15 to bring the overall score on the night to be split by two points.
'What a great start, I am really happy for the guys and the fans it was a great meeting at both venues. Ray France has shown to me that my decision to put him into the main body of the team will hopefully be justified. We will see on Friday if he can repeat his score but I have every faith in him. His parent club the Kings Lynn Lightning were a little shocked when he was put at number 2 but he needs to kick his career on and hopefully a full season with us will see him do that.'
'Wayne Douglas was amazing at the Starbug Stadium and his score reflected a great team performance where if we all score well and pick up the +1 the riders can earn themselves more pennies and the team can get a result because of it. Wayne showed enough to get the Heat 15 place and showed his worth by getting the 1-5 with Neil Johnson. We are just experimenting with the team positions at the moment and Chris Williams is going to be key for us, if he can score well at 5 at home then that will allow Ewald Dirtl to do some damage from riding at number 3.'
'A great start for the team and we look forward to welcoming Hull Angels to the All Saints. They had a healthy start in PS1 against the very strong looking Bottesford Bullets who we have as our curtain raiser to the season. Hopefully we can show our worth again and get even more of the West Bromwich residents down to the track.'
