The Aberavon Gems finished 2nd in the UL last season on riding points. The Gems battled hard to win back to back UL titles. The points racked up by 5 of the 7 meant sadly changes had to happen.
They have loan Aleksander Jelen out but kept him as an asset likewise with Carl Price. Curt Jensen who moved from reserve to an over 6 point average is also looking for a new club. Laurie Campbell has also been loan out plus club captain Carsten Ostenstad.
This season line up has more strength in depth hopefully. New World Champion Kenni Algreen is again leading as our number 1 and spearheading with him is our Welsh wizard Richie Sampson. Swedish youngest Carl Nordahl is staying after having another great season, Tobias Dahl is at reserve again and will benefit from last season.
We welcome 2 new club assets in Sean Mullins and fin Aarni Finne last but by nowhere least we have secured the loan of Polish rider Zbigniew Nieroba who is hoped will form a great pairing in the middle order with Nordahl.
Here's hoping for another top season from your 22/33 Gems

Week 2 home meeting first of the season, promoter JC thought the crowd was down on expectations as it was our new world champion first home meeting since being crowned. The Gems new line up did gain the win 47-43
1. Kenni Algreen............. 2 2 3 3 1* - 11+1 2. Sean Mullins.............. 0 1* 3 1 - - 5+1 3. Zbigniew Nieroba.......... 0 1* 2 2 - - 5+1 4. Carl Nordahl.............. 2 2 1* R - - 5+1 5. Richie Sampson............ 2 3 3 0 2 - 10 6. Aarni Finne............... 3 1 1 - - - 5 7. Tobias Dahl............... 2* 1* 1 0 2 - 6+2
Both Kenni Algreen and Richie Sampson got double scores and everyone chipped in with 5 being the magic score. Although the Gems won they only won 6 heat winners.

We go into week 5 with the side overly reliant on our top 2 Algreen and Sampson Nordahl is holding his own average but needs to push on. Nieroba is struggling greatly and the Gems coaches Edwards and Hooper are working with him Nieroba is our third heat leader but is currently not performing at that level. Mullins is also doing ok on the whole. Our 2 reserves home form is reasonable.
JC has tasked both coaches to work with these guys to master the away tracks to get a balanced average.
Kenni Algreen started his defence of his World Championship in North America and ended the night with a solid 12 points. Richie Sampson was reserve for the night.

The the first GSA has arrived after week 7 and the Gems sitting in 8th place with 2 wins and 4 losses. Following the recent seasons successes the side has not hit the ground running only current world champion Kenni Algreen is performing fully even Richie Sampson has slightly slipped but still his average is over 8 which is good he has now fully recovered from the disappointment of not being in the GP having to just miss out on a top 10 place.
Gems had to make changes and decided to bolster the lower order we brought in Zbigniew Nieroba as the third heat leader unfortunately Zbigniew has struggled to adapt and his average has suffered his home form is now just over 6 and away average only 5.6. As for the rest of the side Carl Nordahl continues to hold his own and has pushed his average up to just over 7. Sean, Aarni and Tobias have kept there current averages. The club has decided to cancel Zbigniew loan and wish him well, they have managed to secure the services of young Norwegian, Magnus Johansen who has an average of 7.30 but currently riding above this average.
It's hoped with extra training the side will start to click and move up the league.
