Well here we are, at The Derwent Bowl and a couple of hours before the new season We are pleased to get a chance to introduce the new team. Everyone has remembered to get here on time, always a good start. It's a press call before a wheel is turned against Lanarkshire and the new season is underway.
When asked about team building, Promoter David Grainger was in good spirits. We got four riders from last year back and the three new boys are all riders we have scouted in the past and kept an eye on their progress. We think they are ready to hold their own in the top flight .
Liam Reay, World #2 and current British Champion. We just couldn't imagine the season starting without him. He was unfortunate to just run out of steam in the Grand Prix and was largely responsible for sparing us the indignity of relegation. Everyone wants a top rider like the one that we have got.
Mark Black, had an injury blighted season, but still only just missed out on qualifying for next season's GP via the Challenge. He had considered leaving Workington. However, we managed to persuade him that we needed him and if he can recapture anything like the form he was in two years ago, we can put in another title challenge.
Mati Petkovic, he's the cement that holds this team together. Our first signing when we became promoters of this team and he always seems to come up big when Logheads need it. We'd have been strung up by the fans if we'd let him go too.
Jerry Devazier came in last season on the recommendation of fellow Aussie Warren Casey. When things were a struggle for the team, Jerry was always there with a smile and an encouraging word for his team-mates, essential for team morale.
Billy Laidlaw had a poor time at Estuary and took a long break from the sport. He’s invested in new equipment and says he has got the bug back. He says he’s up to the travelling and keen as mustard to get started.
Abraham Willemsen didn’t pull up any trees with Wigston, but has always promised a break out season, without achieving it. Knows this may his last chance to make speedway his full time career.
Brendan Duggan struggled last time he was a regular in the Power League with Wantage, but a combative rider that has an all action style that the fans will love. Hope he can bring his Hunstanton form with him.
