Once again the Cats failed to shine in the KOC, only achieving a narrow 2 point victory at home was always going to make life difficult, and this was in spite of a sublime performance from reserve by Steve Edgar with 3 race wins on his way to 12 from 5, if anything he should have had more, he should have been in heat 15, he was our top scorer. I'm not really sure what happened, I think the message to the ref got lost in translation somewhere. I think he got confused by the rider replacement rule and for some reason thought reserves weren't eligible for heat 15, so Buck had to go out.
Whatever the reason we headed for the Kingo, and in front of what be in the region a Power League record high crowd of 1355, we slumped to a depressing defeat by 8. Aside from Rado we were pretty nondescript, and when you have 2 riders of the ilk of Dvoynev and Vaughn only dropping a single point apiece, both in heat 15 to Kornacki, it's going to be an uphill battle.
Luck didn't seem to be on our side, and for some small twists we could have seen a different result, Rado had to retire from a great position in heat 1, Borek retired when he shed a chain on a 5-1 with Josef in heat 8, our 'mini fightback' in 11 and 12 would have had an even bigger effect then, we'd have been level going into 13 on 36-36. We'd have still lost, but it would have been at least more respectable.
I'll be looking to shuffle my order, Stefan's struggle at 4 in the KOC makes us too weak in heat 14, a pretty crucial race, and meant Steve had to come in for him, rather than Dragan, so i'll be looking to address that in time for the visit to Chantry. The KOC is gone, time to focus on the league, this team will come good, I know it.
