Just 2 points! That's all that separated us and Lanarkshire at the end of 30 heats of fabulous racing. Hayden Wood was the thorn in our side as I'm sure he will be in man others over the season. He came in as a tac sub in heat 14 of the second leg taking the victory and a 5-1 with Wallborg Matsdotter before winning the final heat and clinching the tie for the Lions. Despite going out of the cup I was pleased with the efforts of the team. I have tipped Lanarkshire for the title so to get within 2 points of them over 2 legs all bodes well for the league season. Erik Davidsson and Martin Shaw both hit double figures in both legs and lead from the front. Brad Easty and Jean-Marc Struthers formed a solid partnership in the middle of the team and it was great to see Kalle Mikkelsen looking really sharp in the home leg. At reserve, Peter Doyle enjoyed two good legs scoring 6 and paid 8 and winning both the reserves races, while Kenneth Krogh may have struggled but was learning every time he took to the track and will look to improve over the season. Congratulations though to the Lions and we look forward to getting revenge later in the season.
This week the league starts in earnest and we have a trip to Wantage for the first time ever. The Kings will be looking to put down a marker in their first UL match so we will have to be right on top of our game if we want to get anything out of the meeting. I will be looking to Erik and Martin to lead the team and hit the new boys hard early in the meeting. Wantage have the experienced Jonus Sandin leading them with the young exciting duo of Filipe Chong and Lennart Levin to back him up, It should be a good match but I am confident we can get a point or two out of it.
