The Wizards left Wales with their K.O.Cup 1st round tie with the Dragons very much in the balance, after they had suffered a 10 point defeat. Westwood had held the deficit to only 4 points by heat 13, but a 4-2 and a 5-1 from the Home side in the last two heats left doubts in the Wizards fans minds as they contemplated the 286 mile trip Home!
Westwood produced a solid team performance whilst Abertillery's Huw David was unstoppable till he was left at the gate in heat 13 and trailed in last.
The return leg at Thanet Arena saw Westwood reduce the overall deficit to 2 points by the end of Heat 11. Despite Tactical Substitutions from the visitors in heats 12 & 14 the teams were level overall going into the last programmed race of the night. Hellsen made the gate for the Wizards and with Calder holding off Lukanov the Home side had won through to the next round by 2 points, much to the relief of Westwood's jubilant fans.
As for the manger, Terry Meech he was last seen heading to his office to grab some more blood pressure pills!
