Burslem ended their pre-season with a 90-90 aggregate draw with new boys Bottlesford. Having won at home, but lost away, both to 48-42 scorelines.
"It was putting the finishing touches to the team" said manager Mike Auffret.
"To be honest, I've always believed that challenge meetings are just a bit better than a session in the gym, as it is about getting ready, and I think the lads are ready.
When you look at the scorers, across the 2 meetings, all 7 riders got a race win, all scored points, and we only had 12 last places across both meetings. That is pretty solid going for a team.
Nurasyl keeps getting better, and will continue to improve as he gets used to British tracks, and Bradley is a coup at this level. He will score well home and away, so I am delighted that he has got his bikes set up right for him. Mike got paid 8 in each meeting, and Craig hit paid 5 in each meeting. There were times we could have pushed harder, but I didn't want us to do anything stupid in this meeting. The time for bigger risks is when the real stuff starts.
I do want to, at this point, mention Maxie North. He had been struggling a bit in the pre-season, and didn't quite know what he needed to do to help with the step up. I spent a day at the track with him, and we went over a few things, and it really showed. He was flying in these meetings, scoring paid 12 and then 9. I don't expect him to keep that up every meeting, but he has done well and he is deservedly proud!
This week, the real stuff begins. We travel to Hull to open their first season, and as much as I love new clubs, I want their fans to go home upset"
