REPORT We ran them close, but a home 5-1 in Heat 13 ruined us. It was a lead that the home team refused to surrender. All in all, it was a promising start to the campaign. The Heat Leaders led and everyone else scored. We left Whitby with a feeling that we had been unlucky and hopeful of what is to come.

CHANGES
WORKINGTON LOGHEADS
Heat 12 - Abraham Willemsen in as a reserve replacement for Brendan Duggan
WANTAGE KINGS
Heat 13 - Lars Meldegaard in as a tactical substitute for Lennart Levin Heat 14 - Jonus Sandin in as a tactical substitute for Fillippe Chong
Some fans thought that Joe Finch could be lining up for Workinbgton this season and there was a dramatic tension in the air before the first competitive race of the season. Sandin leading home Reay didn't calm the nerves. However, two 5-1s in Heats 6 and 7 did and the place was rocking. Additional 5-1s in Heats 12 and 13 ensured thgere would be no fightback from the Kings and it was a dream home debut for Abraham Willemsen after being harshly excluded from Heat 2.
**STARMAN** Matija Petkovic (Workington Logheads)

Things have been a little slow to percolate from the Press Office in Cumbria as the school holidays and desire to trap the tourists in the local Pie and Tea Shop has taken a priority. Press releases remain the main bridge to the fans and the Officer has provided with rules to ensure no court martial.
With the first transfer window now open, we asked and the Supporters told us that they feel the Logheads could be doing better. 'We seem to have two of the heat leaders on form each meeting, if we could only make it 3 and reflect real life. The home match to Wolston and Aberavon means that Brendan Duggan should get his chance to prove that his time at reserve has been no flash in the pan. Laidlaw managed to keep the points coming despite riding in the tough #4 spot, but Abraham Willemsen is unlucky to miss out.'
As a result, Karl Sorensen will leave COPENHAGEN COBRAS in Euro League 2 and move to Workington. He's got an away average of 7.5 at the moment and we can only hope that the WEDNESFIELD WANDERER does as well in the UK. We have the added bonus of him starting from the reserve berth.

What the management team at Workington need to understand is his Euro average and performance levels will somewhat diluted as the UL is a mucher toughter than where he is now..

8 WORKINGTON LOGHEADS - 46 - 44 Teeside 1. Liam Reay................. 2 3 3 3 2 - 13 2. Jerry Devazier............ 1* 0 2 2* - - 5+2 3. Matija Petkovic........... 3 3 2 2 0 - 10 4. The home management were thrilled to see off the Teeside challenge. The new line up did (just) enough and this was the sort of match we were losing last season. That's why we were nearly relegated. If it hadn't been for Bergestol and Thoresen it could have been a blow out.

TWEEDSIDE 44-46 WORKINGTON 1. Liam Reay................. 3 2 3 1 3 - 12 2. Jerry Devazier............ 0 0 2 0 - - 2 3. Matija Petkovic........... 2 3 3 3 1 - 12 4. Our first away victory, built on the performance of Matija Petkovic and a promising performance from new signing Karl Sorensen. The scores were close all match, until an engine failure for Mark Black saw the home side open a four point gap. A fall and exclusion for Ambrose in Heat 13 saw the visitors pull level again. It was set up for a Heat 15 clash to decide the victors and Liam Reay and Matija Petkovic made the start. Ambrose managed to split them, but couldn't catch Reay as the Logheads took the win.
